I use TOS's own control panel.

I noticed your thread for your new speed test prg. I won't have time for tests today but I will help soon. The high-colour pics in your adaptations rarely display properly for me (fault of the routines, not yours).

Actually, it is my fault - I coded displaying routines for HST files. + did some little different PCS timing, what may look not 100% OK in emulators, but is fine on real HW - good for overscan. What I did not is SW for converting regular picture formats into STE high-color format.
Problems may appear with NTSC machines + monitors not capable to show 50Hz refresh rate . All it is because used vertical overscan, but it is very good for cover scans, which are mostly narrow format. Another problem is that CPU runs on NTSC machines little faster, so need correction of one delay timing.
Please try new adapt.: game Beam - there is some speed check before displaying.
Famous Schrodinger's cat hypothetical experiment says that cat is dead or alive until we open box and see condition of poor animal, which deserved better logic. Cat is always in some certain state - regardless from is observer able or not to see what the state is.

Thread revival. I've just released a new demo (Closure/SYNC) and for the development of that demo I made sure to acquire not only regular 8.02MHz PAL STFM and STE but also a 8.01MHz Mega ST4 (took me a while .. ).

However, I didn't manage to get any 8.05MHz machines in time for the demo release, and I _suspect_ that the demo fails partly or completely on them. So, for my own curiosity I'd like to be able to test this.

Am I right in assuming that the simplest way is to mount the crystal from an NTSC machine in my otherwise PAL STE (I'm only using RGB output) with a switch - rather than purchasing a completely new machine?

(I'm guessing I would need to mount the switch internally and with extremely short wires though)

Thoughts?

If the only difference is the crystal , then I would either socket the crystal to simply swap them, or build a little board with a jumper link on it to change between 2 crystals.

Just thought, what machine is taking the 8mhz crystals as they are normally around 4mhz for PAL/NTSC on STFM? Oh, I see STE is 8.1mhz.

Not sure it would help, but there are adjustable oscs like this one http://www.circuitbenders.co.uk/forsale/LTC/LTC.html Though you would need a scope to check frequency, but you could set it to whatever you wanted with a little fiddle on the motherboard no doubt.

Well for my purposes I only want the exact same frequencies as used by Atari. 8.01, 8.02 and 8.05 (/4 from the master crystal). There are some extremely rare machines with 8.007 (Paulo has one) which when discussed I think the only explanation that made sense was that someone at Atari ordered the wrong ones at some point in time ... (32.0242 instead of 32.0424)

Ah right! Didn't know that. My STE & STFM has 32.084988 in them. Never really looked to see any variations on them though.
