Alive 10 is released

Post by cxt »

Alive 10 is here. Only three month after the release of issue 9, the alive team strikes back. This issue is about half the size of the last one, we hope you will enjoy it nonetheless. Alive 10 features music by GwEm, Crazy Q / DHS and Marcer / Atari Legend / Elite. The stunning title picture and the menu gfx were done by our star artist C-Rem/MJJ-Prod.

Hey George,

thats life :) I waited till shortly before midnight, before I created the mag, perhaps i will do an update somewhen. Anyway the web version contains the updated version, but i think some colour tags are still odd, perhaps the converter doesn't love AKT edited documents so much.

Surely a very nice issue!

But:
* I miss a review of Penta :D
* It is too fat. I had hoped to read Alive again on my 1040 but all I coudl do was fire up STEEM. Make issues smaller, release more often and have ST compatibility again!

Is Alive really too big?

Post by cxt »

We have released the current and previous issue of Alive to be read from your HDD. The thought behind that was, that most sceners own several machines and at least one with a harddrisk or HD disk drive. (Machines from Mega STE (was also available with DD floppy) upwards were originally sold with HD floppies, as well as falcons and most TTs.)
So far there haven't been any complaints about that. Anyway it is possible to split the mag for DD drives. But so far nobody asked us to do that, so we sticked to this size.
As i mentioned on the Alive site, if enough people want a DD version i will make one, i just see no point in making one without a good reason :)

CXT,

I would really appreciate smaller versions of ALIVE. I think it is the coolest thing if you can read the mag on a real ST, hear the music through the old monitor speakers. But I never manage to cram it all on a DD disk.

Its a real pain in the ass to convert games to real ST discs. It only works for me about 50% of the cases I try it (in general I mean). This has always been the case for me.

Disk mags on the other hand are easy to make smaller, by just releasing them more often. I personally thing that is a really good point, and ALIVE would benefit also from more frequent release, I think. It keeps it all fresher, and you don't have to write more, just split the issue of now up in 2 or maybe even 3 issues and add some new graphics.

I know, it is easy to say, but it is a cool idea.

Anyway, I love the disc mag nonetheless! Ace work!

Cheers,
Maarten

Alive 10 is now available for DSDD Floppies ...

Post by cxt »

You will need two formatted disks with the following format to fit Alive on 'em:
2 Sides
80 Tracks
10 Sectors

You can grab either the zipped files:

http://alive.atari.org/stuff/Alive10disk1.zip
http://alive.atari.org/stuff/Alive10disk2.zip

Or go for the MSA disk images:

http://alive.atari.org/stuff/Alive10disk1msa.zip
http://alive.atari.org/stuff/Alive10disk2msa.zip

Hopefully this will please all readers
