You're in luck! That issue of STampede is on eBay at the moment. You know, I knew I'd seen it before but I didn't twig until now. In fact I almost bought it myself when that listing first appeared so good thing I didn't! (Click the pic)

I try. ;)

Mind you, there are plenty of copies of the boxed game on eBay, even a JAMMA board of the arcade original! I guess they're no good because they crop the art too much or are too small? I wonder who did the arcade bezzel (also for sale!), some of which Bob based his work from.
badflame must have gone to bed already. Hopefully this is some good news to wake up to, sir! :)

No worries, I enjoy helping out here and there where I can. :) Just let us know when you've finished the restoration; I'm sure we'd all love to see another brought back to life. Cheers!

It's as good as done.

My last restoration: "Striker"

Image

It has not been the most complex, I have only deleted texts and have enlarged the left side of the image, which was cut and deformed.

Seconded!
Going back to what I was saying before, is the art on the game boxes themselves too small?
Also, when's the coffee-table book going to be published? ;)

Thanks for your kind comments, guys.

About the game boxes. Normally when scan at 600 dpi you win a lot of size, but... after is necessary soften the image to reduce the "moire", and resize to win focus again. So, in the best case, with a clean source, using a good scanner and an the appropriate edition, you can duplicate the original size (approximately).

About the book it's complicated. The problem is that all the illustrations are copyrighted. Perhaps I could convince Wakelin to publish an art book with all his work, later, when I recover all his lost work.

There is a lot of great work going on here! I applaud you all! Well Done.
I have a side related question. What about the cover disks that went with many of these mags? It would most convenient that when you look a mag online you cold also download the cover disk right there. Also, what cover disks I can find are all in STX format, so it's hard to run on real hardware. The is a lot of the disks out there that are only side 1, or have bad/corrupt/missing files.
I sure I probably have missed a thread about it. But it would great to have the kind of detail spent here also applied to cover disks.
Kind of make a complete package. Like when you went to the book store and purchased that baggie with a new glossy mag and disk inside!

Thanks for your kind comments KLund1.

About the disks of the magazines, in this case were not included in the pack. But I think that most of them are available to download online. Although perhaps, the label image not have sufficient resolution to print at optimum quality.

Hi, are you still looking for them? If so, are you after hi-res scans or the actual mags? I have them but don't really want to permanently part with them. I do have high-res scans (higher than on my STF site), if any use? Sorry for my vagueness - I've not actually read back through this post to see what the core objective is :? !

Hi, thanks for your kind reply.

In fact, I don't need the physical magazine. Only a scan at high resolution (600 dpi) around 7000x5000 pixels of the "Midnight Resistance" advert:

You would do me a great favor if you would provide it.

Thanks a lot :)

Sorry, I really need to check this forum more regularly!

Anyway, Awesome, then I should be able to get you what you need. I've checked my current scans and I <think> they're currently at 400dpi - 3340x4778. I also think there's a slight issue on close inspection with some wavyness (not a real word!) at the bottom of the pages on the OCEAN logo. Anyway, for what they're worth - until this w/e when I'll be able to scan you the 600dpi versions, here are STampede 03 & 04 versions at 400dpi...

Thanks a lot for your kindness.

I look forward to the scans at 600dpi (at 400 already looks great, but I prefer wait to work with the best scan possible). Don't worry about the logo, since, precisely, my job as a restorer is to eliminate it.

Here you are a complete process of restoration from an advert:

Also logotypes:

In this case (the case of "Midnight Resistance") the logo is very large, but fortunately I have a cover of the game without logo in low resolution, which I will use as a model for the restoration. Obviously I will have to replicate drawing by hand the overlapping part of the illustration.

Thanks again, mate.

Okay, I've scanned & uploaded at 600dpi...

They're saved as JPG - max quality - so about 50-55mb per file. If you could you reply when you've downloaded & I'll remove them, thanks :)

Hi STFormatJez,

after 10 days of work, I finished the restoration: https://twitter.com/postersdecine/statu ... 5921123331

Thank you very much for your two scans, I have used parts of both (and of course more assets to erase the logo). Without them it would have been impossible to restore this art.

Best regards and thank you very much again :)

Wow! Looks amazing! So much awesome work on your Twitter feed - love the Renegade and Rastan art work that I remember so well from my ZX Spectrum days! Sorry if you've answered this already, but what's the plan - is it all going in a book or is this just a personal project?

Thanks for your kind words :)

Well, all these restorations are a personal project, but for almost 6 years (until the day of his death) I've been collaborating with Bob Wakelin, recovering for him his lost arts over the years.

Now, I'm going to start collaborating with Steinar Lund, the illustrator of covers for games like "The Last Ninja". He has also lost part of his work. The first restoration is going to be "Thunderbirs".

Unfortunately I can not publish the arts that I restore, since the rights belong to their respective authors. This is, then, a personal work for me and I only can share my finished works at low resolution.

Anyway, I invite everyone to browse my Twitter where I will publish all the finished works.

Greetings and thanks again for your kindness.

I hope count on you for future restorations, providing me with some more scanning
