Ghosts'n Goblins on MiST
Hi guys,
I have not posted here in a while. Just to let you know that I'm still alive and doing things for MiST. After reaching to a hard stop on the Genesis port because we could not figured out how to fix certain things; I decided to learn more about the MiST platform and how the graphic system of classic machines worked. So I took on my fetiche game: Ghosts'n Goblins.
After a couple of months of working with the original schematics and a PCB I have now characters and scroll working on MiST. I will work on the sprites next. I think that everything will fit in the FPGA, including sound, and that it will be arcade perfect right to the clock cycle. It will be exactly as good as having the original board at home but way more comfortable to use.
You can have a look at some pics in my twitter account here.
Cheers!

That's good news. Ghost'n Goblins was my farourite arcade game when I was young.

jotego, your twitter account is no longer available. Is there another place where I can read about the progress on your Ghosts 'n Goblins core?

Re: Ghosts'n Goblins on MiST
I am not sure what happened to the twitter account. It has been working for me all this time...
Anyway, as my regular job is keeping me fairly busy and I have not been able to work on this for the last 2~3 months; I have decided to release what I have now. I hope to complete it next year (2018).
Just copy these files to the root folder of a SD card and plug it into MiST. Here is the link. Remember to unzip.
Do not download this unless you are legally entitled to have a copy of the Ghosts'n Goblins ROM.
Sound is completely broken, so do not complain about it. I will fix it eventually.
Enjoy this Christmas gift!

Re: Ghosts'n Goblins on MiST
I've just tried it in my MiST, it's awesome! Very difficult game. The atari st version is horrible. The amiga looks like the arcade version, but it seems to be much less smooth (I've only looked at the amiga version on youtube at the moment).
The twitter account is working, it's just the first link in this thread which is no longer working.

You should try the C64 version. https://csdb.dk/release/?id=148379farvardin wrote:I've just tried it in my MiST, it's awesome! Very difficult game. The atari st version is horrible. This is a great core too btw. The only bit that seems to need work is the sound, but lotsa fun.

Re: Ghosts'n Goblins on MiST
I've been playing Ghosts'n Goblins on the MiST, really enjoying it. I thought I'd fire up the Retropie for the sound. Oh MY!! The input lag in comparison is terrible! I wouldn't have know if I hadn't have played the actual version on the MiST!

Some time ago I was fond of emulation, now for me there is only the MiST and its excellent cores.

Re: Ghosts'n Goblins on MiST
After four weeks of work I have finally added full sound to Ghosts'n Goblins, fixed graphic glitches and increased the core stability. I have asked to have this core included in the binaries bundle for MiST but in the meanwhile you can grab it from here. Sound is made via JT12 as I have extended it to work as a faithful YM2203 too.
ROM generation should be easy enough, but for a couple of days I'll leave one ROM file here.
I think there is a bug in the CPU core I use and you make the character start climbing imaginary ladders. The author of the CPU core insists his core is flawless so I have to debug it. The game is perfectly playable anyway and it is distinct from MAME in a number of ways.
Note that this game uses a board common to many CAPCOM games of that age, so if people like it I will be porting other games like: 1942, Black Tiger, Tiger Road, Trojan, 1943...
By the way, I have started a Patreon page (not as monthly subscription but per release). As usual, all the cores are open source from day one, that won't change.
