Re: For Sale: Nemesis speed booster for Falcon
I think you phantom is switching off, have you got the CPU saver enabled in the NIND CPX?

Re: For Sale: Nemesis speed booster for Falcon
If I load Nemesis and then Nind, it shows 16/32. I have to run Nemesis_on or P_turbo to enable the Phantom.
Yes, the power saver is enabled and it works Ok. After 2 minutes it goes back to 16/32 mode until I move the mouse that comes back to 24/48.

Re: For Sale: Nemesis speed booster for Falcon
You should be able to right click on the indicator to switch up to 20/40 (really 25/50 in the case of the phantom). Then left click to go back down to 16/32. You only really need NEM_ON.PRG if you want the phantom activated at boot time.

Yes, I can switch between 16/32, 20/40 and 24/48...Is this ok? the 20/40 is 25/50 and 24/48 is 24/48?

Re: For Sale: Nemesis speed booster for Falcon
The phantom is either on (25/50) or off (16/32). So the two nemesis modes are just the equivalent of switching the phantom on.
Don't be fooled by the values in the display, this isn't some kind of measurement, just 3 different graphics that are associated with the 3 possible modes.

I noticed it running the tests. Here are the results:
DSP test is 156%

Yes, that's good. Your phantom is working fine. Using the nemesis software instead of P_Turbo is a huge improvement, especially when coupled with NIND.

Re: For Sale: Nemesis speed booster for Falcon
Hi Dal, finally I got it...(yes, it took me some time
)
Nemesis.prg+Nind.prg and that's all. With click on the 16/32MHZ indicator I can switch to 20/40 or 24/48 (all 25/50 in our case). No need to load Nem_on.prg or p_turbo.prg.
Thanks.

Re: For Sale: Nemesis speed booster for Falcon
Great! Thanks! Looks like the Nemesis Indicator works well with the Phantom.qq1975b wrote:Ok. I couldn't resist to give it a try :p
I loaded the .ACC, then the Nemesis.prg , then NIND.prg (showed 16/32 on the top right corner) and finally the P_turbo.prg. Then it showed the 24/48
I haven't problems on this. After few minutes of doing nothing, it went to 16/32 state.
I will read carefully Dal's post and see if I can test something interestingor tell me if you want something special to test.
If you move the mouse or press a key after it has activated the power saving mode (switched to 16/32 state and flashing the indicator), does it restore the previous state and quit the flashing? Dal had problems with this. I suspect the SuperVidel is the problem.

No problem in my case with this. It worked ok.

i would add a heatsink to the mpu in all falcons and TT'sctirad wrote:I don't think it can actually help without a proper termination on the both sides, at least. I have made a lot of experiments when I designed the Phantom and finally decided to use ordinary wires.dml wrote:A recommended 'upgrade' is to replace the crappy clock wires with RF-class silver-cored mini coax. It's not cheap to buy but it's worth the trouble.
I personally never saw a Falcon which could not run reliably at 50MHz. But the multipoint grounding of the card was allways a MUST.I tested with 55MHz crystal (27.5MHz CPU & bus) with reasonable success, albeit not perfect if things were moved around while re-assembling the machine. Simbo reported rock-stable 55MHz in his original build (but then he is an RF trained engineer!). Something close to 50MHz should be easily attainable though on most machines using coax and grounding the unit proprely.
I upgraded a lot of machines myself and sold more than hundred of the Phantoms worldwide and the only issue was actually had was the clockpatch I borrowed from the NemesisIt was too sensitive to the used chip. Some SN7404N worked perfectly stable and some just radnomly crashed the computer, especially in Cubase Audio. It was better when the CPU was cooled by a fan, but that was just a healing of the symptoms.
One day I ended with a two exactly same SN7404N from Texas Instruments. The only difference was the one was bought a half year after the former one. The first one was rock stable. I tried to record 16 tracks of audio in Cubase in loop for a three days without a single glitch. Of course at 50MHz. When I replaced the chip in the socket with the second one I had freeze every couple of minutes.
In meantime I tested also different kind of chips. The "F" logic was allways rock stable, but the DMA was garbage. So I designed a new clock patch with a two chips. The 74F04 for driving the CPU, FPU and BUS and (SN)7404N for the SDMA. This may looks weird, but it is actullay works in every Falcon and it is rock stable even with the CT60.
Now I'm trying to achieve the same result with the CPLD.
mine works aok at 62.5mhz {use a 50mhz fpu not fn33 fn50 or better}
i use a DDC to generate the variable clock
using a micro contoller
http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.ph ... it=nemesis
also reading this topic is handy for many issues
http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=26458
clock patch works like a charm with sdma at 62.5mhz
same method as the nemisis
perhaps your dual buffer method is a bit better
but direct coax to the chip pin is in RF terms the most sensible
the pcb design is terrible in the falcon and RF leeks all round using wires only
making the clock outputs week in the process
using mini coax is the only way
you can buy a 60mhz ddc from ebay for about £25 or a dual one for about £50
then you can dial up what you want accurate to .01hz
if you want 0-600 mhz simply add a X10 scaler and accurate to .1hz

Do you happen to know which thread that was? Would be very handy to see that diagramdml wrote:There is also a thread somewhere on this forum where I mapped out the wiring and where things go.

Read the wiki post first, there's two very important errors in the installation manual that you need to be aware of. DML's diagram appears to be accurate and very helpful.Robson wrote:Actually this is on my todo list, I have a board with Nemesis to rewire!

Re: For Sale: Nemesis speed booster for Falcon
Will do. In my case the wiring is just poorly done, I saw the falcon booting once but nothing after so i decided to rewire anyway using the mini coax.catmando wrote:Read the wiki post first, there's two very important errors in the installation manual that you need to be aware of. Can anybody point me to find a good quality one? Link?
Thanks.
