Falcon MKX+CT63+CTPCI+more for sale

Post by jfl »

Since I got my FireBee I haven't booted the Falcon one single time so I'm selling the Falcon. One Atari at a time has always been my limit :D
The machine is fully loaded, as you can see below:

- CT63
- 68060 running stable at 100Mhz (I forgot the revision #, but it's one of the fast ones ;-) )
- 512MB Crucial SDRAM
- PicoPSU (80w, from memory)
- CTPCI
- Radeon graphics card
- LG Slim DVD writer
- Floppy drive
- EtherNEC network card
- JTAG cable
- Some other stuff I'm probably forgetting

BIG WARNING NOTE: the last times I powered on the machine, I had to reset it an increasing number of times to finally get it to run. I remember the very last time it took several TENS of resets to power it up. It then run for hours without a glitch. So there is definitively something wrong, I suspect on the original motherboard, but don't take my word for it. So this is a machine for someone with some hardware skills.

Some further notes: there is no keyboard (I use it on the 'Bee) and the collectors will be disappointed since the MKX box got butchered by its previous owners, me included. There is no other way of fitting a DVD drive and/or maintaining proper cooling for the CPU without modding the original box. However, some smart people may be able to do this properly, the paint itself is still pretty good. Also, there is no hard drive, though I can reformat my CF card that I used as hard drive.

I'm not too sure about the price (I do know how much the full shebang cost me and I don't want to be reminded of it!) but I think 500€ plus postage is a fair price, even for a semi-broken Falcon.

I will take some pictures when I have some time.

Update:
I'm adding a couple of bad pictures. I'll send the rest to interested people. I'm also throwing in a couple of Dallas chips, an ISA network card for the EtherNEC and a few books.

To: jfl, you know that problem your having, it could be your capacitors at the RESET circuit have gone bad, i was having a similar problem with my stock faclon doing the same thing, its an easy fix and dirt cheap to repair! if your able to repair you probably can get a little more money for that BADBOY :)

Yes, I know, but I'm not looking to make the max amount of money; I'll be happy to know that the machine goes to someone that will actually have fun with it.

I don't think I will. I never regretted selling my STF when I got my MegaST, then selling my MegaST when I got my TT, then selling my TT when I got my Falcon :D The way I use these machines, the FireBee does exactly the same than my Falcon, except with much less hassle with cables and such.

Now, this'll be the first time since about 1993 that I won't have an Atari-branded computer in the house 8O Though I still have the keyboard!

not to derail too much! My Dad did a more practical engineering course at college, I have learned some things from him.. he made his own homebrewed 'lotus' Cortina.. I have changed the engine on a Lancia Y10 Turbo ( Fiat 127 block with a Ferrari 308 Turbo on it lol ) I have no tools at present.. Got a Volvo C70 T5 GS that's been a bit more of a project than a daily runner so far... needs an alternator / regulator sorting now... then the final few things fog light and an aerial to bring it back. I could do with a VWT4 camper... been working as a tv/film extra random locations odd hours and not near me much... lookout for Wolf Hall, Atlantis and Far from the Madding Crowd!

I hope too and that's why I didn't go to Ebay. Here, there's more of a chance of selling it to someone who will actually use it.
