shame I'd compiled a video with pointers.
Speaking of video and getting back on topic, here's a quick video I made showing the attract mode on Badmood.

Have to say that it looks much better in real-life. While one can see the speed, video doesn't really show off the texture improvements Douglas has done to BM etc.

Cool

I recently did some mods to the texture loader which makes it easier for me to upgrade textures which were causing problems before. Entire textures can now be replaced instead of just the little patches making up the textures, so I can quickly improve a lots more without sitting for hours in Slade & DoomBuilder fixing offsets and other annoying stuff...

Will upload a new version after new year with improved gfx.

Finally got a chance to try it out here. After the initial long wait for the conversion,
it runs fine. I'm using an older NEC monitor that gives both RGB and VGA with one of
those multisync adaptors for my Falcon. I didn't try it in VGA though.

This is on my CT60'ed Falcon, 16 megs ST RAM, 256 megs of TT RAM, TOS 4.04,
HDDriver, running from the F partition.

I couldn't get it to work while accelerated, so this was with the CT60 turned off,
and the motherboard mods turned off. I'll have to try it later with just the MB mods
turned on to see what happens.

Otherwise, totally freakin' cool Doug! Total coolness incorporated factor here.

Great, thanks!

Yes I haven't had the opportunity to work on an accelerator-friendly version yet. Sometime after new year. Just wanted to get the basic one out for now.

Have already sent experimental versions to a couple of people for testing purposes, with audio and CPU enhancements, but far from complete.

As outlined previously... this project is - and always was - aimed at a stock-spec box (meaning: 14mb stock ;) ) but I'll make it friendly with faster machines also.

SOME USEFUL TIPS

On VGA, the game runs most efficiently with 'chunky columns' (F5 key, and default setting) in fullscreen mode. It will use a fancy Videl configuration for this case and draw half as many pixels - but only in fullscreen!. It may not be as fast as using a reduced size window, but you'll get more pixels filled for cycles spent. Enabling chunky columns in any other situation (RGB, or VGA in windowed mode) is a bit slower because it must be done in software. Still its faster to use it than hi-detail mode in all situations.

On RGB, the game runs most efficiently with 'chunky scanlines' (F4 key) regardless of fullscreen - works in windowed mode as well, but its more ugly than chunky columns and you'll probably want to fullscreen it anyway.

It runs fastest with both F4 and F5 together on either monitor, but fullscreen is essential because its so chunky it will make your eyes bleed. Probably easier to cope with on RGB if anything.

The game also plays reasonably well without chunky columns or scanlines (hi detail mode) so long a the window size is dropped one notch (7) from the default size (8).

....aaaand.... musical cheats:

idmus01 ... idmus32 Doom music
idmus33 ... idmus69 Doom2 music
idmus70 ... idmus76 other Id games (software replay mode only)

[EDIT] don't use the musical cheats with the SV version or the first beta - use the latest beta, otherwise some tracks may kick you back to a damaged desktop in no time flat.

Btw, in what state is Hatari "support" by the recent two (SV and the from day before yesterday) builds? Unaware of any Hatari support (status bar possible) I've been happily running both builds, then I read about the --natfeats yes trick and ... doesn't work anymore ;-) As soon as I disable it, works again.

I'm not sure tbh - not had time to catch up with recent Hatari core updates.

I do believe the natfeats thing is broken temporarily, along with a few other things but they're working on restoring most of those bits and pieces.

Natfeats uses a specific illegal instruction to communicate with Hatari (IIRC) so I guess the core doesn't understand it at the moment, and the exception handling bit is failing.

I probably won't get time to play with the new version until after holiday season.

Ty for this video - I havent had time to try the beta builds yet (thanks to a 19 day old baby), and wanted to see what the SV special thing was.

Well done Doug, looks great - look forward to a play soon. Ty for the credits ;)

That reminded me I allways wanted to find some utilization for the fact that on the VGA the BUS consumption is the same for 480 line mode as for the 240. Maybe a black scanline effect almost for free? ;)

It is worth a try to see how it looks - yes it should cost the same.

Thanks for the video, haven't had time to install it on my Falcon yet :)

The game looks great in the video, can't wait to try it out on my machine :D
I read on the BadMood website that you are looking for game levels among other things as project contributions, what is the plan? An entire new Atari chapter of Doom?

If you want NatFeats (-> BM statusbar) to work, use this commit from end of November: ca7bdb0452db

It's last commit before Nicolas did the major WinUAE CPU core update which broke a few things. Those are being fixed, but it may take a while. New CPU core should bring in much better cycle accuracy and MMU emulation (and TT-RAM support is in works).
