New: STe CPU adapter & 8MB ALT RAM

Post by alanh »

I thought I'd start a new thread just in case people didn't see this as I altered an older MegaST 8MB ALT RAM thread...

Hi RA_pdx,

If you read the other thread above, it had some prices.... but to repeat....

* CPU Adapter alone, that means the white socket, PLCC CPU socket and a 68000 socket (not shown as it wasn't soldered) - 40 GBP
* Additional 8MB circuitry - 30 GBP
* Optional STE IDE adapter connectors (the black strips around the CPU area) - 15 GBP

Shipping to the UK - 5GBP, rest of world usually 10GBP.

Let me know which pieces you are after. Thanks !

I know it's expensive, but the parts aren't cheap. Sorry about that.

NOTE: Please read the other thread on height restrictions if you are trying to cram this into a stock STE.

Hi Alan,

Will this work with your first run of IDE adaptors?
STE: Desktopper case, IDE interface, UltraSatan (8GB + 512Mb) + HXC floppy emulator. Plus some STE's/STFM's

Hi Dal,

Yes, but you'd best read the other thread for height restrictions.

Copied here....
Just did some height restrictions testing with my STE.

Essentially, any stacking of boards in the STE means you lose the metal shielding.

The STE IDE board doesn't fit on top without trimming of the IDE CPU adapter pins, and even then it "just" fits and may need a piece of insulation tape sticking around the keyboard area, just in case.

The alternative is to use the STFM IDE board in the DIP adapter socket with low profile socket adapters. You'd still lose the metal shielding, but there's more breathing room.

Height restrictions not an issue, that STE is in a Desktopper case. Cheers Alan. :)

I have a question about this board, could the additional alt-ram circuitery been purchased later (i can't pay 95 gbp (i'm french)) in one go due to financial difficulties), and add it myself?
At least for the ide adapter connectors as i'll need it (i allready have the ide board), i can add the additional 15 gbp.
by the way i have a post 1991 1040 ste (4 MB), with good dma and ajax floppy controller (the ics are all labelled 1991) waiting for it's restoration process.

well never mind my question, just saw the seperate alt-ram board and realised the circuitery is soldered on the board and i can't do it myself, so i'll have to wait and buy it in one go.
