Can't Tell If I have a rare Atari Prototype on my hands

Post by shanksmafia »

Hi All,

Not sure if I'm posting on the right sub forum but please feel free to educate me if I'm not. Long story short I stumbled upon a yard sale and bought a launch edition Atari 2600 with 50+ games and accessories. One of the cartridges looked off and I couldnt get it to work. I think its called a Prototype but I don't know if its legit or not. I have attached some picture of it on this post. If you have any way of validating this or direct me to where I can find out what this game is and if its legit, then that would be awesome!! :D

I think you are likely better off asking over at Atari-Age. This forum is primarily geared towards Atari's 16 bit computers and derivatives.

But looking into their database I suspect the cartridge is legit but probably got water/fluid damage at one point and someone put a simple label on it for identification reasons. It would also explain why it isn't working.

They can sometimes be repaired. If only some traces are broken due to e.g. corrosion then this can be fixed. If e.g. the rom itself is damaged then there's not much that can be done. Sometimes it's even sufficient to clean and de-oxyd the slot contacts.

You might post some pictures of its innards
