Re: .st to real Atari STFM with STEem?
- mount .ST in STEem
- use an MSA PRG to convert the mounted drive A: or B: to an .MSA
- transfer .MSA to STFM (I use ParCopy USB)
- write .MSA to real disk on STFM using the MSA PRG
Re: .st to real Atari STFM with STEem?
Copying the st file on your stfm, put a floppy disk in your drive then
fatcat MYFILE.ST -x A:\
may be work.
I've tried it only under Mint.

Jay MSA archiver works with .ST files allowing viewing and unarchiving of them on the ST series. It's freeware and available at:
http://jaysoft.atariportal.cz/
Simply transfer your .ST files to the STFM, install Jaymsa there too and it should do the job. Jaymsa will also work in Steem.

I use a greaseweazle.
Connect to the PC, write the .st file to a real floppy, use it on the STFM.
It's a lot less hassle then the other ways!

Hi,
Thanks for all the help.
How do you assign a drive on steem? Can you put .st files to regular files on a usb flash drive or sdcard on steem?
It used to be easy. I would use floimg on my windows xp pro. The windows xp pro got a blue screen of death. The replacement has a slot for a floppy drive but no data connector on the motherboard. I have a usb floppy drive. It doesn't work with floimg.

1: In steam, load the .st file to drive B in the preferneces. (drive b, so that steam doesn't run whatever is on the disk at boot)
2: boot the ST
3: open drive B:
4: copy the files to a folder on your atari emulated drive C:
5: exit steam
6: in windows, go to the folder used by steam as the hard drive
7: using your usb floppy, copy the files from that folder to a disk
8: put disk in the real floppy
9: there you go.
HOWEVER
this will NOT work with games, or anything that uses hidden files , DMA etc
To save us guessing, what -exactly- are you trying to move to a real floppy?
A Greaseweazle device is probably the best option, and can be used with Win10 etc

Re: .st to real Atari STFM with STEem?
.ST files are regular disk images (.IMG), so you can extract them to folders on an HDD or to a DOS FDD using any disk imaging software like WinImage. This will work only with regular DOS disks. Many Atari ST disks had custom bootloaders and needed to be bootable. These won't work. Still, you can use WinImage to write ST disk image directly to a FDD, without extracting individual files. PC FDD, in most cases, can't handle more than 80 tracks, and many USB FDD support only HD (1.44 MB) diskettes.
Re: .st to real Atari STFM with STEem?
With usb floppy drive the only thing you can do is to format floppy disk in TOS to standard 720k and then put it into USB floppy drive connected to your PC and use Total Commander or Double Commander with Jacknife plugin to extract .ST images to ST formatted floppy disk.AtariDog wrote: Fri Oct 27, 2023 1:56 am It used to be easy. Anyways the easiest way to use .ST disk images with real Atari ST is to install internal or external Gotek.

Re: .st to real Atari STFM with STEem?
It is a small pcb that connects to an atari st, amiga or pc floppy drive, and the other side is usb, and connects to a pc running windows, Linux, mac.
You then use the command line tools to write or read disk images.
You can read or write high level disk formats, .st, .adf, .img etc, or flux level disk formats, which also preserve the disk copy protection as well as the data.
So you could, for example, write an original addams family game flux level dump to a disk, and play it on a real st, without cracked versions etc.
