AFAIK Jaguar version of Doom didn't use the same levels as PC Doom, like BadMood does (with some pre-game processing), there were some simplifications to them for speed. However, I don't know whether Jaguar Doom level files are compatible with PC Doom, i.e. could one use same level files to get proper comparison between the engines.leech wrote:I'm curious to know if anyone has ever benchmarked BadMood vs Doom on the Jaguar. Would be pretty funny if DML managed to squeeze better performance out of the Falcon than John Carmack had gotten out of the Jaguar.

It's a while back but I recall Doug saying Jaguar WADs were slightly different to PC WAD format files and BadMooD kept compatibility with the PC format.Eero Tamminen wrote:However, I don't know whether Jaguar Doom level files are compatible with PC Doom, i.e. could one use same level files to get proper comparison between the engines.

Correct - however there is at least one port of the Jag Doom data over to the PC format, which Doug looked at briefly - see http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.ph ... ad#p232499viking272 wrote:It's a while back but I recall Doug saying Jaguar WADs were slightly different to PC WAD format files and BadMooD kept compatibility with the PC format.Eero Tamminen wrote:However, I don't know whether Jaguar Doom level files are compatible with PC Doom, i.e. could one use same level files to get proper comparison between the engines.

Maybe you can experiment with the SDL_AUDIODRIVER variable to get better results? (see pmdoom docs)Neurotoxic wrote:sound effects that sounds painful

It's Friday, and I should be working, but I really want to go play Doom now...
