That was Seren from discord. Thankfully she was able to get the board to work for her and knew some japanese.

Hello

Can someone explain exactly what to do to have the core running. Even if for the moment only the console is supported.

I'm lost with the lack of explanation for this core.

Thank you.

There's a response from the X68000 author, which using Chrome's translate says:

"I'm interested in DE10-Nano rather than MiSTER.
This time I struggled to
rewrite the FD emulation in hardware, but if it
is possible to do disk emulation on the
ARM side because DE10-Nano can use Dualcore ARM that is more powerful than Nios, disk emulation can do
much part to software You

But is it easy to write an ARM program of DE10-Nano?
Because there is no keyboard (PS / 2) I / F, I
think that I will emulate using the USB KB from the ARM side, but in that case
control of the USB is required, and
it is expected that it will be difficult without some sort of OS You are
If so, what kind of OS do you use? . ."

Probably he doesn't know what MiSTer is and that all I/O functions are already implemented to make porting X68000 easy.

MiSTer's framework I think is exactly what he's looking for. He seems to want a program running on arm to pass user input and file IO to the FPGA instead of using NIOS. AKA MiSTer.

This is exciting! Seems like it's only a matter of time before this core matures.

The latest update seems to say something about fixing a problem with palette words being incorrectly byteswapped in some situations. I doubt that this is "the" graphics update everyone is waiting for (the corrupted sprites I've seen look to me more like a bug with fetching pattern data), but it's at least a sign that the author is looking at graphics issues.

music and couple garbled screens you call as mature?
I don't see any gameplays on this core.
It's still remaining console-only core with ability to show some graphics and play some music. Pretty much far from mature. Still in early proof-of-concept stage.

I don't see any garbled graphics. "Console-only", what does that mean? It runs Human68k (the OS most people used) and can also run games. There are in-game pics here too: https://twitter.com/maki_ichicat/status ... 3238017024

There is a plan to make a new X68K core as far as i know. Will it be completely new core or will reuse this one - i don't know. So there is no point to port it now as it will be hard to support the system which still needs a lot things to improve and everything is in Japanese.
In other words: it needs a dedicated developer. Simple direct port without further development will keep it in the state of "abandoned" core like now.

What progress has been made on the X68000 core? I stumbled across this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tITKBMLCT1c

I don't know exactly what files need to be named and present. I've made the SD Card Disk Emulation Utility appear, but none of the keys on my keyboard work, so I can't mount any images or do anything. Any help or direction would be appreciated - I know the core isn't 100%, but I'd like to get at least the OS working. What files do I need and where do they go? Thanks!

afaik x68000 core no longer works with the latest MiSTer. You need to get an older main MiSTer just to try it. The core as it stands is abandoned till its revived in future or rewritten from scratch.

It’s always sad to know that a core is no longer working... hopefully this will regain developers interest in the future.

Jotego announced he will likely do a new version of X68000. I really hope he does, I could die happy if we had a good X68000 core.

Wow, huge respect to Jotego! Producing a working X68000 core would be a monumental achievement, especially since a lot of knowledge about it remains among Japanese devs, such as those who have produced the best X68000 emulators, and the language barrier is often hard to cross for collaboration. I know that user Tatsuya79 over at the libretro forums is a good link, and (I believe) he maintains the Pk68k core.

The dream is for more Japanese devs to come aboard the MiSTer project. PC-88 and PC-98 are totally doable on MiSTer, FM Towns Marty too, just need that knowledge.

That would be very cool to see.
I am keeping my fingers crossed.
At the rate MiSTer is growing I think it is only a matter of time for some japanese devs to get interested in it.

As I understand it, the X68000 is very similar to CPS1 hardware, so it is definitely hopeful that Jotego's CPS1 work will trickle into a X68000. I tried a bit more to make this work, using earlier versions of MiSTer, but no dice - the F11 menu wouldn't appear on any early version I tried. Oh well, I will keep my eyes peeled and fingers crossed!

That would be amazing... fingers crossed that Jotego is motivated enough to see it through.

Amazing developer.

Hi!
It's pretty much straight forward. You just need to open the project in Quartus and compile.
However, X68000 MiSTer project is very old and haven't been updated to opensource scaler, and there fore it requires standard license for Quartus.
But seeing you here and willing to work on updates i can update the framework to latest with open source scaler, so you will be able to build it in free Quartus.
But even current version of X68000 can be used in free Quartus. You can't generate rbf, but you can generate sof file and upload it through USB Blaster.

X68000 is a gem and needs to be enjoyed by more people. The barrier to entry for original HW is sadly very high.
Thank you for any kind of contribution in reviving this core!
