RSC EDITORS

Post by exxos »

I'm using "INTERFACE" V233 & WERCSBAS to edit my files, though both have good and bad points. Mostly I like INTERFACE but it crashes when I try and edit a text box. So wondering if anyone has a different version of it I can try ?

Could try Interface v2.30 here, I know it's older, but I believe 2.33 was the last version. Could be wrong: https://sites.google.com/site/stessenti ... /interface

I have 2.30 on the Falcon and never had any problems with editing. Had bought it original. In the nineties you could not try every piece of software.
It was known as the best resource editor compatible with Falcon TOS at the time.

Maybe try Ressource Master : http://www.ardisoft.de/

It's now Freeware, and English RSC is easy to find...

I always use this editor without problems.

Very strange...

I use it a couple of years on a plain 1040STE French TOS 1.62, without any problèms, and now I use it under Steem + Tos 2.06 Fr, and never crash !

I use it too under Aranym + Tos 4.04 + Mint.

P.S : Sorry for my bad English...

The strange thing is, it does not always crash. Though there is a background box if I try to edit it, it crashes every time.

See this video..
Cinterface.zip
It does that at random even when trying to edit a string box. sometimes it will let me edit several boxes then crash. So everytime I make a change I have to save the RSC file in case it crash.

Maybe you can upload your English translation and I can give that a try ?

Here is what it does for me under steem TOS206..
rsm.zip
Basically just crash with 4 bombs.

Actually both Resource Manager with it's English RSC seems not to be so readily available anymore. A lot of the links seem now to be dead. The same goes for previous versions of Interface (I.e pre v2.33). Both are Freeware, but not so freely available anymore.

As Exxos alludes to, it might be worth updating the Atari Wiki if some nice donor can supply them?

Thanks, RSM still crashes with 4 bombs. On TOS104 is loads in english and says BGH is not installed, whatever that is. Also seems it only happy to run in High-res. So don't know why it does not like TOS206 :(

OK, I try Interface 2.33 & RSM 3.65 under Steem3.2 and TOS206 Fr without problems... I can Edit the BOXTEXT easy...

For RSM, Juste ignore the BGH alert, and need to be run in Med-Res and need to run the RSM.PRG, not the RSM.APP... If I run RSM.APP it crash with 2 bombs, but PRG run fine.

Maybe your RSC file is corrupted ? Have you try to make a new RSC file and reproduct the tree too see if crash again ?

Can you upload your RSC file and tell me wich tree and object you want to edit, i will test.

I think the RSC file is ok, but here it is,
GB600.zip
If you look at my video its the outerbox in INFO form which always crashes it. Sometimes it just crashes at random just clicking on random string boxes to edit.

Sorry for you, but it's running here ! :D

Image

I try 5 time to edit the outerbox without problems... Same result with Ressource Master...

With Interface, when I click EDIT it's take 2-3 seconds to display the Edit Dialog, but with RSM, it's quasi-instantanely... And No Crashes...

Sorry for my English again, hope you understand me...

Maybe a conflict with some auto PRG or ACC ?
I ran Steem 3.2 without AUTO and ACC and it works... TOS 2.06 Fr (Yes i'm French ! :) ) & 4Mo @8Mhz

No, it's 2.30 despite what the folder name indicates.

I have been using Interface 2.30 for a good 20 years now and can't remember it crashing at all. I've been using it mostly with MiNT and either N.AES or XaAES, but it has also been used for a few projects on plain (Mega) ST's with TOS 1.04 and 2.06.

Do you run any TSR's on your ST? Stuff like Wdialog, Quick ST and Warp 9 will cause lots of mysterious problems.

Never seen Interface crashes as well.

The only thing I remember is that it didn't work correctly on Hatari GEMDOS emulated host FS' (files got only saved on every second attempt) until Hatari 1.8.

I'm not running anything at all other than FCOPYIII as a ACC. Aside from that I don't think anything else is running at all. I will double check and also try that 2.30 version.

EDIT: OK it is indeed 2.30 and that one seems to work ok :D So that 2.33 version must be buggy then somehow

Strange. I'll do my tests with 2.33 here...

Hovewer have you try another version of Steem ?

And why not use the EasyAramint Archive from Faucon_2001 for devloppment purpose ? You have Net, True Colors, and high resolutions.

I have a beta of steem in use, I think it does the same anyway in that. I use it because its quick and easy to setup and make changes. I only use steem for actual testing, for programming I use notepad on the PC so don't really need anything else :)

For information I had the same problem for the past 5-10 years
see description here http://info-coach.fr/atari/software/dev ... create_rcs
My workaround was tu use WERCS to write the offending RCS file with problematic FTEXT object then continue with Interface.
Not very pleasant but works

Also the Interface crash seems to happen randomly: sometimes works sometimes crashes???
I tested your gb600.rcs -> "edit form2 tree -> edit statistic Boxtext" and it works for me with Interface from Atari Essential SW (so called v2.33)

I am about to start a new thread on Interface program to provide latest information about it.
I have been able to find 5 different version of the program!
I have also been able to find documentation of 2.2 in French and translated it to English. But even better got German documentation of V2.33 and I have translated it to English as well!!!

Almost ready to publish - Stay tuned :)

Bought Interface v2.30 back in the day. However the manual (English) is currently 900 miles away stored at my dad's place.

Downloaded v2.33 archive only to find the credit box says v2.30. However, the file size is different from my purchased v2.30. :?
