Atari email archive 1982 - 1992

Post by darklight »

Hey everyone I found on reddit an interesting page containing internal emails in Atari between 1982 & 1992. They cover the ST years, but I haven't yet seen any mention of STs yet. There are however lots of technical information on gaming hardware, I'm sure it'll be interesting for some of you guys to trawl through.

Jed Margolin's Vax Mail, Memos, and Status Reports from Atari/Atari Games 1982-1992 See the links at the bottom of that page.

I tried to find if this had been posted before, couldn't find anything. Also sorry if this is in the wrong forum - admins move it as you see fit.

It's in the first sentence: "I worked for Atari and then one of its successor companies (Atari Games) for 13 years, designing hardware for coin-operated video games."

That's why there's no mention of the ST - he was working for the "wrong" Atari.

Yes I know that, but there are mentions of the 8-bit Atari hardware, so I was hoping for ST content too. Well actually I saw mentions of POKEY chips, but it looks like they used in their arcade cabinets too, so maybe there is nothing to do with computers in there. I still think someone may find it all interesting.

The arcade unit used almost any combination of silicon imaginable, including the POKEY. Some even used dual POKEYs. However, he stayed with the arcade division which was not sold to the Tramiels - thus no connection to the ST. If he had stayed with Atari Games until the end, there might have been some bits about the Jaguar though (Atari Games used an arcade board based on Jaguar hardware for a few lightgun shooters).
