Dumping Falcon original games
Dumping Falcon original games
Hi all,
I've been given some Falcon originals (with the box and manual).
I've just seen that Apex media's ROM is not available under atarimania.
I've got (all falcon originals) :
- Ishar 2
- Apex media
- Transarctica
- Sheer agony
- oxyd magnum
I wanted to read the Small guide for making Pasti-images available at the link given by steven upper in this thread, but it seems the link is broken.
If I can help to preserve some programs, it's with pleasure. (I already sent some ST games in sweden a few months ago).
Any help on how to transform the floppies ?
Regards
Thadoss

Re: WANTED: most missing images
Falcon is using 1,44mb disks, and this format is not supported by AUFIT..... I wonder if Dr Coolzic could work out AUFIT so that this format can be dumped as STX files....
Do you happen to have a kryoflux board by chance ?

Re: WANTED: most missing images
I don't think that Pasti support HD (1.44 MB) format. Also, don't think that all those Falcon games are on HD floppies.
So, what you need is: some ST, STE . Falcon is not suitable for Pasti imaging. Usage is actually pretty simple, when you know what doing
If no hard disk on ST(E) then it is little more work - need to prepare transfer floppy . If no access to ST(E) then best to send, bring those floppies to someone who has.

No, I don't.
But it seems that the floppy disks are not protected (the manual says that I can copy the content of the floppies on my hard disk (that's what I've done for Ishaar 2).
Maybe a simple .zip of the 2 floppies should be enough if you're interrested ?

Ishar 2 and Transarctica are copy protected. Or not ? Do you have to let your disk 1 inside the drive when you play from hard drive ?

Re: WANTED: most missing images
Ishar 2 has copy protection on disk 1. Additionally there is some manual protection activating randomly at later stages. What I don't see here is: is LaurentS having special Falcon version of Ishar II, or it is just regular one, Falcon compatible ?

Re: WANTED: most missing images
He indicated he has the specific falcon versions of Ishar II and Transarctica. The thing is those games use 1.44mb disks
Ishar 2 has 2 manual checks, and transarctica has 3 spanned in the whole game.

Re: WANTED: most missing images
According to Atarimania Ishar 2 release from 1993 is Falcon compatible too. So, my best idea is that it is noticed on Package.
It would be good that LaurentS perform that Show Info in Desktop and then will see what is capacity of floppies

Re: WANTED: most missing images
Here is ISHAR2, based on 3 floppy release (Pasti images at Atarimania), with removed copy protection. It works well on Falcon, from hard drive. Manual protection is still there, so be ready that will ask some words during play.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: WANTED: most missing images
Btw. someone should move last 8 messages here into some other section. This really belongs not in most wanted images. Nothing listed there except Apex Media is not missing.

Btw, I imaged Ishar II for Atari Falcon last year.
I still have no idea how to validate the dumps before spreading them...
Looking for a CosmosEx unit for Falcon...
Re: Dumping Falcon original games
Hi all,
All the disks are the falcon version (256 colors, 1,44 mo).
I've got the manuals (if needed I can scan them).
I've played a bit to Ishaar 2 lask week and I didn't keep the floppy into the drive (but maybe I didn't play long enough).
> Nothing listed there except Apex Media is not missing.
I haven't seen the falcon versions of the games under atarimania, but just the ST version (I may be wrong).
I know these games can be found on Tof site : http://christophe.bray.free.fr/informatique/ (I think the programs are the cracked ones, not the originals).
I'm asking here if I can help with preservation of originals.
Regards
Laurent

Re: Dumping Falcon original games
If disks are 1.44 MB (HD) you can not make images of copy protected ones. Then best to organize it with someone who owns SCP device.
For not copy protected stuff this may serve: http://atari.8bitchip.info/floimgd.php
Possible that Falcon version of Ishar 2 is not copy protected. Copy protection activates right before game start, and no such by Falcon v. to make it hard disk installable.

Re: Dumping Falcon original games
The silmarils on disk protection is normally tested before the silmarils logo appears on screen. One sure way to verify this matter is to checkLaurentS wrote:Hi all,

the game manual.
Silmarils stated for earlier releases that the game had a copy protection (detailed in the hard drive installation process).
Yes you can, but you need one of the two systems actually available : either the supercard pro (if you want to get a bit 2 bit copy from your original disks), or the kryoflux system (made expressively for preservation purposes).> Nothing listed there except Apex Media is not missing.

Re: Dumping Falcon original games
Resurrecting an old subject. I also have a couple of Falcon originals and SuperCard Pro. So which settings to use for Falcon preservation? Disks are in HD format so should i go with PC 1.44 mode or with Atari ST mode? Does the software automatically read the disk config for correct sectors/tracks or should i edit something manually?
