Atari World & Atari Computing Mags going online

Post by exxos »

http://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/mags/mags.htm

All issues of AW and AC are going live over the next week or so. Some pages need rescanning, but rather than waiting more months while pages are checked & rescanned, I have compiled all the issues "as is" for the time being.

For the moment I am only allowing a few issues to be downloaded, simply due to if lots of people download the whole lot in one go, its going to slow the server down (which isn't mine). Once I get a idea on traffic/hits I will allow downloaded of more mags as the days go on.

I will post back in this thread when more go live. I Will also post when updates are done on the mags, mostly when/if they need to be updated due to blurred pages or bits chopped off etc.

About 7GB of downloads already, odd thing is, issues 1 and 4 are mostly being downloaded, not issue 2 and 3. Strange to say the least.

I am keeping a eye on the bandwidth ( I am not limited on it) I will try to keep a eye on it each day, so as soon as load drops, I will enable the next 4 issues. Its probably not a problem with not many people downloading issues, but just want to make sure I don't kill the server... again... 8)

Must be something to do with subscriptions, weren't they on a three issue run?

Awesome work! Thanks for scanning in these magazines, it will be so nice to have them in pdf.

I love your idea of "burgerware" so I donated. Not sure how much burgers cost over the pond, but hopefully it was enough.

Many thanks for the donation :D  Yeah burgerware I think works well, There was a typo on it before, I missed the "r" out of burger

Dawn has been checking though the issues, seems to be about 2 pages on each issues of AW and AC which need scanning again. I think AW was a fraction to large to fit on the scanner, its mostly on those center pages where stuff spans across both pages, nothing important is chopped off, though I do have a A3 scanner but it really sux, so a bit of tweaking still to do yet :)

I do plan to edit the covers too as they have got a bit tatty over the years. Which is surprising really as they have been kept untouched pretty much since new.

I have enabled AC 5-8 now. Bandwidth seems to have been around 10GB over the past 2 days, so not a great deal really.

About the time these magazines came out I was trying out this new operating system called Windows 95. I installed it on a computer I pieced together and used the 31 floppies to install it. The 1040STfm was set aside. I wish I would have known about all these upgrades coming out during this time. I would have never taken the route I did.

I missed so many good things!!!!!

I'll do the cloud uploads over the weekend so that there's a mirror copy. When all the magazines are done, I'll also upload them to the newsgroups.

My girlfriend Dawn scanned them for me :) She is busy re-scanning a couple of iffy pages in each issue, also mentioned for her to edit the front pages of the mags and "tidy" them up a bit. Make them look a bit more "new".

We do have plans to start scanning STF at some point in the near future. Though as there are so many of them, and so many pages, it will probably take a week to do a single issue. Think there was about 86 issues in total. So will probably take a year or so do 8O

Excellent work scanning these and making them available! Problem with the AC issue 4 link though as it has an extra h in the url.

Now does anybody have issues of ST Plus Fanzine they could scan? :D

All issues of AW and AC are now online.

We have touched up the covers to make them look more "like new" and currently re-scanning a few wonky pages. Higher resolution copies will be released as a DVD set in due course.
