But only so it can split away from the loss-making French company.

I suppose this really won't change anything though. It's not like any company has used the Atari name for anything consistent for many years.

They're apparently going to rely on income from their old IP such as Pong.

Atari US are quite active on facebook, but only US and iphone focussed, not a 'global' picture at all.
Odd they say 'infrogrammes' the parent company is a lossmaker?!
Already Midway and Atari Games are gone.... I doubt these 'executives' have any real experience otherwise they'd still be part of the picture, it's just a constant 2600 and nothing else....

Hopefully the new owner stops hunting down people who wish to keep Atari-spirit alive

Not surprise if they go under.
They could have done a 3D pong.... but wait, that's already table tennis on Wii/xbox/PS3 sports games and tennis and golf and.....
So much for old IP.

I'm wondering why they didn't go into any real hardware venture beside this Flashback stuffs. Simply rebranding some cool PC as a Games machine with Atari logo or marketing an Atari Android handheld console..... I think there are useful stuffs a modern day Atari Corp could do in the hardware business without having to actually develop something on their own cost. Atari and the logo is a trademark. Why not stamp it on some hardware?

Yes! I do!
However the current Atari probably will be trading from a grotty red light district on a partially abandoned Earth by then..

I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact they split the company in the 90's and sold off the consumer electronics (hardware) side separately from the the software/games side?

wasn't there a clause saying that Jack Tramiel put in place saying the company must remain 'whole' ?

Apparently on Atari Age they're discussing a Kickstarter fund to buy all of the IP.
Figures quoted are around the $6m mark.

What company? Jack's company (Atari Corp.) went away when it reverse merged with JTS. "Atari Corp." wound up being a single person at a single desk under JTS. All that was sold to Hasbro was paper assets and a brand name and that's all that's existed since.
