Falcon (?) cannon fodder 2

Post by Mr.JT »

has a 3 level demo for cannon fodder 2 (fixed for falcon). I've never noticed this before...whatever happened to the full version?

Was never released for the ST as far as I know.

would it take much work to add all the amiga levels to the demo that exists as most of the source code must be there? it would be great to have a full version...

Good question. It depends on whether or not the game's logic is completely hard-coded, or if it used some sort of scripting for things like level order/map data/mission objectives. I suggest you look over the game's files in a hex editor. I don't have this demo, so I can't take a look. If the game uses some sort of direct-floppy access, it will be tough to analyze. If the game is in plain files, it will be easier to determine.

The demo is downloadable from the link in my first post...worth a look I reckon... not sure I'd know what I was looking for but will have a look anyway..

Okay, so I took a very quick look. It seems that the game has an executable, and all the data is stored separately in one large linked container file.

I didn't bother to figure out the format of the container or rip anything. Sorry. However, I'm not going to say it's impossible to replace the maps. I do think it will be impossible to add in the missing characters, AI, and other code missing from the demo however.

EDIT: Also, according to the French readme included, this is not a demo. It is a preview, which usually means it is an incomplete work in progress and therefore does not contain all the needed code for the full version. It also mentions that this Atari conversion is by Supremacy. They were a cracking group I believe and I think this is dated 1995, a year after the Amiga version was released and a few years after commercial ST games were being released. It's probably an unfinished fan conversion.

I agree :D

Hello together,

as far as I know the so called Cannon Fodder 2 Demo was just a release be some french freax back in the days, no official demo at all. If I remember right some peeps of the cracking band Supremacy where responsible for this little hack... so I hardly doubt it will be possible to blow up the whole thing to a complete game.

Greetings,

it should be quite easy to pass CF2 on atari ST. The map system is not that complex, since we have on amiga
a map editor. Must be portable to ST(e).

Definitely, but in this day and age I'm sure ST users would rather see some new original games. If someone really wanted to play Cannon Fodder 2, they've probably already downloaded the PC version or the Amiga version and an emulator. I'm not going to say that I wouldn't play CF2 on ST if somebody actually went to the effort of porting/remaking it.

Hm well a full version of CF2 would be really nice.. but it would be more nice if someobody would do something like "Cannon Fodder Reloaded" with completely new levels :)
