RGCD - A Retro Gaming Discmag! (Issue 04 Out Now)

Cut and pasted from my website...

"Four months in the making and almost 18,000 words in length, the debut issue of RGCD features some cracking material - highlights of which include in-depth developer interviews with the programmers behind the excellent Typhoon 2001 and Thrust Extreme (Thorsten Kuphaldt and Wiebo de Wit respectively), previews of Crownland and Sub Hunter (two awesome forthcoming 8-bit projects) and even an exclusive PC remake of an Atari ST classic.

Issue one also features reviews of Greenrunner & Zoo Mania (C64), Nuclear Waste Dump & Znax (Atari STE), Qwak (GBA), DragonWing & Lunar Blitz (VIC-20), Counter Clockwise (PC) and many more..."

Check it:
http://www.rgcd.co.uk

It's a HTML-based CD-ROM discmag created for viewing on a PC, but it does contain a handfull of articles on Atari 8-bit and 16-bit releases.

Thanks,

James.

Hmpf. I'm a bit disappointed no-one has commented on this. Check the reviews:

http://gnomeslair.blogspot.com/2007/03/ ... -disc.html
http://www.pixelove.net/index.php?2007/ ... gcd-genial

It's been quite popular and features reviews of Paradize's 2006 back-catalogue. And a load of Atari 8-bit stuff. And a PC remake of the ST PD classic shooter 'Nova'.

:D

Hey James,

I must have missed this over the last few days, not sure how, but anyway :) I love this sort of thing. Good on ya!! :-)

I think I had Lunar Blitz (or something that sounds like it) for the VIC in the early 80's.

Will have a read now.

Aly

ps. I think you should be selling the discs on eBay. Good transport for getting to people that. :) Personally I do prefer magazines though that you hold in your hand. If there was one still about I'd buy it. Trouble is that today's offerings are just packed full of company adverts and not worth it. That was the demise of many a magazine, Computer Shopper destroyed itself. The early issues were like 500 grams max. The final ones I bought were like 1-2Kg+. All glossy adverts and rubbish.

I used to like Computer Weekly which was effectively plain paper. Those little thin mags. Micro Mart used to be good too. I don't understand why they think glossy pages sell. I liked paper.

Thanks Alison.

Nice site. If only I had the cash I'd buy that Mega STE - I've always wanted one! Unfortunately I've got a baby on the way and every penny is going toward renovating my disaster-zone of a house...

Actually - that sounds terrible. It's obviously *not* unfortunate about the baby - just with regard to the lack of money!

I have no idea how I missed this either. I'll blame it on this forum being a little dodgy lately ;)

Anyway from what I've seen at the site it looks good, so I'll be sure to grab the iso and check it out in greater detail.

Well, that is up to our postal service. I moved into a new flat this week and I don't know if all stuff will arrive properly at the new one. I don't have access to the old mailbox.

No worries for the moment - thanks for sending in any case :)

Well, you'd better get on with coding some new ST games then!

Issue 2 is already underway, with 12 reviews typed so far. Only one Atari 8-Bit game so far though...

I'd love it if I had more new ST stuff to review, but unfortunately games development for the 16-Bit atari is a bit slow these days...

I love the mag!

You have got a great bunch of reviewers together (me excepted  ) that have very different writing styles which makes for a great read. And best of all - the games are on the disc :D

Issue #04 is out now...

Apologies *again* for the lack of Atari ST(E) content. The next issue will make up for it though!

Was hoping to get my e-Jagfest article into this issue but with the run up to the silly season, and being ill a tad, I've not had the spare time to get it finished

Ho hum .. will have to file my stuff on time next issue!
