I had a bit of a sort out yesterday, so took the opportunity to look through my magazine collection. There were a lot more than I remember! Lots of the usual suspects (ST Format, Atari User, Zero) but some other oddities I'd forgotten about - issues of Atari World, an issue of ST Fun, most of Atari Computing and some ST Applications. Now the question is this: which should I scan first? The ones with the most readership like ST Format, or would you be more interested in seeing something a bit different? It's all academic, as they will all be scanned and available sooner or later.

I'm very interested in the zero issues as If my memory serves me right, the reviews where very witty and pulled no punches and would love to read them again, a sorta like a Charlie broker piss take on the games

Zero was my favourite magazine back in the day. As a young teenager I thought it was bloody hilarious. As an adult I am unsure I want to back and read them again in case my nostalgic memories are sullied!

I have added The One for ST Games to the Amiga Magazine Rack. I figured that there might be some reviews and reference information that would be useful. Since adding them however, I notice that The One were very sloppy - they basically used the identical review for both magazines, even giving identical scores for graphics, sound etc to the games! An Amiga game like Toki in 32 colours with parallax scrolling got identical marks to the ST version in 16 colours without parallax!

Compare issue 34 for example, Amiga version and ST version. I will be indexing the reviews soon.

Does anybody have scans of issue 35, 40 and 42? (I have heard that issue 42 was the final one).

I think you are looking for issue 36 instead of 35. I'll have a paper version of issue 36. It has been on my worklist for a long time so it will be scanned someday. I also seem to remember that one of the issues had a gametitle in reviews index which was completely missing from the magazine.

I don't have the final few issues, but from research I did a while back (I used to run a website called 'The One Coverdisk Basement' ), I ascertained that the final issue was Issue 43 in April '92. This came with Sneak Preview Disk 9 containing a demo version of Parasol Stars. Sadly, I don't have the physical magazine, but I do have the floppy disk that came with it.

That reminds me, I'm now missing only one cover floppy disk from the entire print run now. I can't remember which one, maybe Sneak Preview Disk #7? One day I'll track down the blighter.

I still haven't decided whether I'm going to separate the pages of my magazines in order to scan them. It seems perverse to destroy the very thing I'm trying to preserve. But then again, am I preserving the physical magazines, or their content? I need to give this some serious thought. Many of my magazines were bought by myself as a kid with saved pocket money, it would be very difficult to butcher those with a Stanley knife, for sure.

This is soooo true, I had a real dilemma about whether I should cut the spine and release the pages of my supplement "The History of Video Games" with an issue of CVG. But even though this was the only copy remotely near a scanner in the world the choice was simple...the copy I had was quite badly creased for whatever reason (moisture?) BUT the pages were not damaged.

But yes it is VERY heart wrenching to take something you bought 15 years ago from your local newsagent and cut it with a craft knife. It's done now of course, and I spent ages making it up to the standard of some of the awesome 600DPI EDGE mags out there for all time.

Only problem is that machine will not reboot at the moment and I don't have a PATA external desktop drive caddy hmmmm....lets hope this XP SP1 CD does the magic then so I can at least get the bloody scans off.

In retrospect I did the right thing though, just back everything up in triplicate as soon as the scanner is switched off!!

Anyway, I have a nice Epson old school quality scanner (not like the crap sold today), so if the issue is workload and not finding the mags I am happy to scan and send them on DVD-R to someone (I only have 80kb/s upload speed!!). So let me know

Also I have the PCW issue which previews the ST (they are talking about the 130ST vs the Commodore 128.) which I can scan once I get the PC back up and running if anyone wants.

I remember buying INPUT back in the mid 80s, and I think I still have at least one issue. To think of the hundreds of home micro mags I had from that era, and now I only have a handful left!

Have you tried asking DAL for hosting space ? He let me move the STOS site over onto here so worth asking ?
