Atari picture formats
Hi all,
I am working on an IrfanView, http://www.irfanview.com, plugin for Atari Picture formats. IrfanView is a very good free picture viewer for PC. It already supports a lot of formats (among them .IFF and .IMG), has good picture conversion functions (resize, decrease color dept) and has a great batch conversion mode.
Up till now I am planning to support the following formats:
Degas: PI1, PI2, PI3, PC1, PC2, PC3 (ready)
NeoChrome: NEO (ready)
STAD: PAC (ready)
Doodle: DOO (ready)
Tiny: TNY, TN1, TN2, TN3 (to be done)
Spectrum: SPU, SPC, SPS (to be done)
Art Director: ART (to be done)
Information missing:
Spectrum: SPX (format description, sample files?)
Are there other formats that should be included?
I don't know much about Falcon picture formats. Does one use the standard PC formats on the Falcon or are there special formats not supported yet by IrfanView that should be supported? If so please a pointer to the format description and some sample files.

Think I got some SPX source code somewhere that'll have the file format description. Will try and dig it out.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).
I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Need Tiny picture files
Hi,
I am having trouble with the Tiny format (.TNY, .TN1, .TN2, .TN3). The docu says there are multiple implementations. Can I have Tiny pictures from multiple sources please?
Note: I can generate Tiny pictures myself but they are not coded like the documentation by David Baggett (or at the WIKI page) says.
tnx, Hans Wessels

Have you got any of the Floppyshop PD library ISO files? One of them was full of clipart in multitudes of formats including .TNY.

You did give me a good idea however. My demo collection contained multiple slideshows with Tiny pictures. Up till now not a single picture that is conform the specification in the Wiki.muguk wrote:Have you got any of the Floppyshop PD library ISO files? At the same time robbed the collection from its spectrum pictures. No SPX in my collection, only a viewer.

Here is a a small donation to your SPX collection... 3 hotbabe pics in spx format...
If you do a search for "spx" on the forum you may find a few more possibilities..
Hope that helps...

I am pretty sure by now the infos are not correct. I have tested 163 files found on different PD picture disks and they all decompress correctly with the adapted decoder. I have changed the Wiki entry.Zorro 2 wrote:The infos in this document are "originals". SPX display source code plus an attempt at getting it to work in GFA by myself (probably based on some original GFA code by Electronic Images).
Hope this is of use to you.

Thank you for the source. It is very useful. It will take some time to digest it all. It seems there are multiple slight incompatible versions of the format. Still looking for more .SPX examples.muguk wrote:SPX display source code plus an attempt at getting it to work in GFA by myself (probably based on some original GFA code by Electronic Images).

Nice work Nyh! I'll definitely be a user of that plugin when it's released. Fantastic little add-on for Irfanview.
I take it the plugin will allow me to bulk convert a folder of Atari files into BMP and then I can add the "convert the BMP to PNG" afterwards in the same batch routine? At least I think I can do multiple actions on a single file in Irfanview - can't remember.

No, the Atari TTP can already do the bulk to BMP conversion. The .BMP format is used internally in IrfanView to get the picture from the plug-in to IrfanView. I assume IrfanView still can do the batch convert to any supported output format you like in one run. Noto MENU.PI1 and MENU.PI3 are converted to the same file.muguk wrote:Nice work Nyh! Would it not be better to include the file-extension inside the filename then?
That way MENU.PI1 and MENU.PI3 would become MENU-PI1.BMP and MENU-PI3.BMP?

Is a good idea but... TOS has a 8.3 name scheme and I am not the coder of IrfanView. Under Linux you can easily compile the tool so the .bmp extension is added to the filenaam.muguk wrote:Would it not be better to include the file-extension inside the filename then?

Do you think XnView will work as a plug in for IrfanView? Or are you suggesting writing such a plug-in and releasing the code is a waste of time?AtariFan wrote:have you tried XnView http://www.xnview.de/ for this purpose?
