Re: This POLL sucks

fixed list of choices have absolutely no value, it's like asking "what is your favorite car, and let the choice between Porsche and Ferrari".
hi DBug,

This is a simple poll, we have no other choice to do a complete poll under another form here. It's just done for fun, but if you have a better solution, feel free ;)

cheers,

Brume.
Well, if PHPBB polls sucks, you are not obliged to do polls.

I'm not sure that polls that propose "what is your favorite color [RED] [DARK RED]" is really a poll...

If really you HAVE to make a fixed number of entries, at least add a "OTHER" choice...

Hi Dbug

You have a point here, we don't HAVE to use a fixed value for polls. I have removed the limit of 10 options now. :) Make all the polls you want!

The "Dark Side Of The Spoon" ofcourse.
Nothing beats it when it comes to oldschool demos.

BTW. it runs fine in SainT and STEEM if you use a version with the protection removed.

Can't believe OCWAS is so high... agreed it's a nice demo but nowhere near as astounding as Cuddly was.

Stylish ? Yes I suppose.. but for me it didn't have the 'wow' factor.

'wow' demos for me would be :-

Union
Cuddly
BIG
Suretrip
DSOTS

B.I.G, Union and Cuddly are the 3 milestones for me. No demo has ever been so ahead of its time afterwards. (on Atari ST that is)

Well, first megademo I ever saw was OCWAS, so I seem to have a soft spot for it :)

Jeeez this was a tough one for me. The first megademo I saw was SoWatt, but that was a copy-party demo, so not that many screens are amazing (The only ones I've watch the most were Grodan and Kvack Kvack and the Omega and Sync screens). Dark Side was amazing technically, OCWAS was exdtremely well presented with some great ideas, but as Manikin mentions somewhere (Might be hidden in the protection) there isn't any brain-blasting coding. The Union demo was excellent, esp. the TCB-3 screen. In the end I voted for Cuddly because this was the standard setter and screen after screen just knocked me off my feet. And the comment at the beginning "Did he say Amiga?" If you hid your ST and ran this demo at the time, you'd think you were watching an Amiga.

For me the best demo was the B.I.G. Demo!!
It was the begin of coding extensive demos for the ST. I spend hours in front of my Atari hearing this fabulous musix. Perhaps this demo inspired me to start coding and making music for the Atari.

Have to agree with Tangens as althought the B.I.G demo wasn't really an effects-laden demo .. it was full of my favourite tunes and the digi-section blew me away. Oh so many years ago :)

Years of watching C64 demos and was glad to see some on the ST at last.

Yes good old times...
althought the B.I.G demo wasn't really an effects-laden demo
Of course there were not so many effects. It was the beginning of testing out the capabilities of the ST. Removing the bottom border and smooth scrolling texts like the BIG-scroller were very new at this time.

So, I think it is unfair to compare this demos because they came from different epochs of demo coding.

The Biggest In Galaxy Demo was the first proper ST demo I ever saw and I still love it now :) Where is Mad Max these days anyway?

Gives me the same kind of fuzzy feeling when I hear the tune from "Nemesis - The Final Challenge" demo (by Dutch USA Team) in High Voltage. A simple tune but effective at the time to show off samples in a C64 tune.

i quite like NeXT's Phaleon Demo. 4 disks full of screens and most are fantastic.

i may have spelt incorrectly, but i am from memory. can't image the first disk. some weird ikbd thing getting in the way probably.

of course, i could be entirely wrong. :D

There are disk images of it floating around which I think have been patched to make them work etc.

The same site (if I remember) also had some of the source code from the demo ..

^^^ on the search, but having no luck as of yet.

probably my crap search skills, i've tried the one on atari legend. it runs, but doesn't do any of my favourite screens (on other disks).

ok, maybe time to take a look. something to do of an evening! :D
