Re: Falcon 030 Microbox board
I Don't know how to describe it, or what it will be called. Primary idea was 100% compatible, using legacy components not FPGA design. We are attempting to add as many features as possible. As I said it a Work in Progress.

Re: Falcon 030 Microbox board
I'd be fine with a non-enhanced "as close to Microbox" as possible. Because it's Atari.
Ain't no space like PeP-space.

Re: Falcon 030 Microbox board
Wow, sorry I'm new here, are we talking like a FPGA falcon, maybe backwards compatible? Something akin to the Sixty Four c64 clone, or Spectrum Next?
So many questions, will it be buyable for all, any more updates, pics, etc etc @Wizztronics.
Just gave me an idea, I've a BMC64, its pi based that boots directly into the Vice emulator. Wonder if I can do the same with a pi5, and boot straight into hatari. Use an old St case, A Keyrah interface for the atati keyboard, and joystick/mouse ports, and there you go, you've a ST/STE/Falcon etc that boots in 2 seconds. Hmm....

Re: Falcon 030 Microbox board
I believe Wizztronics was going to use all original parts. 68030, DSP, etc. They were pulled from the Wizztronics eBay store for Microbox production IIRC. It'll have some modern flourishes like Ethernet, USB, etc. I believe too, quality of life stuff but mostly to the original schematics. Someone can tell me I am wrong, but listening to the thread it seems this is my thinking.niallquinn wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 3:33 pm Wow, sorry I'm new here, are we talking like a FPGA falcon, maybe backwards compatible? Super awesome in my opinion, since Wizztronics is keeping the Falcon legacy alive with this project, finishing what Atari gave up on.
Now just waiting so they can take my money.
Edit: Saw the part of your post about a Raspberry Pi.
Here you go my friend, check out Beepi, Beekey, etc.niallquinn wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 3:33 pm Just gave me an idea, I've a BMC64, its pi based that boots directly into the Vice emulator. Re: Falcon 030 Microbox board
Yes the plan is Legacy Hardware with additions, I was hoping for a July prototype, but we are a bit behind verifying the schematic design. One of our engineers is having some personal medical issues which has caused a bit of a delay. We are committed on releasing a new computer, not so much for profit but to keep the legacy alive. I will post updates as they become available.

@Wizztronics
There is an enthusiastic 3D modeler @10p6 who has expressed an interest in making a usable reproduction microbox case. It is his intention I believe for the model to become free/open source. Would that be of interest to you? He needs a bit of information on sizes and screw holes etc.

Re: Falcon 030 Microbox board
We’re sorry for the long delay, we’re happy to announce our lead engineer is back to work after a prolonged medical event. In the coming weeks we’re going to resume our work on the Atari Falcon project.
We currently have almost 18 pages of schematics all of which need to be verified before we do our first PCB layout. We originally hoped to have had a prototype by July, but due to an illness we are behind schedule. During this down time, we have secured most of the necessary components to produce a new computer that will be 100% Atari Falcon compatible.
We have had many individuals ask us what type of enclosure we intend to use for this new machine, some have suggested we follow the design of the micro box. Although this is a possibility, our final design will depend upon the needed space for the additional hardware we intend to implement. Some of our design ideas include a back plane that allows for expansion cards to be used, tested, implemented. Since this community likes to experiment, we may make all peripherals separate plugin cards, this will give the ability to upgrade and enhance our design easily.
The entire team that Wizztronics is dedicated to getting this project done. We will release information as to the progress when it becomes available, we thank you for your patience.

Good news and if there is anything I can do to help, I can drop an official "Toshiba" email that can sometimes entice people to send free samples, lower MOQ etc.
