@Kodak : I have bought a set of 3 brand new System Disks for Atari Falcon 030 french language/model, and i dumped them, generated the IPFs, and also made HFE files for the french Atari Falcon users that would like to use them on their Gotek modded Falcon computer :

https://we.tl/t-VwM4kEpPby

Please add this pack to a special Atari Falcon 030 folder on the FTP, thank you !

We should probably make an Atari Corporation folder, really, and add the system, language, hdd, etc disks to it for each machine?

Thank you. I have create the new Atari Corporation folder in the Mega FTP (verified) share under the IPF confirmed folder and dump with IPF has been added:

I may have asked this before but are there any confirmed good images of Dragonflight for the Atari ST? Either in STX format or IPF format?

I have a feeling the Atari ST version was mastered using an Amiga and not a Trace Machine and that is why I can't find any but maybe I am wrong.

There were 3 languages for Dragonflight: German, English, French and I'd like to preserve all three if possible.

(Yes I know that the original disks were buggy and you wouldn't want to play this version, you'd play the later HD patched versions but I get asked for IPF/STX all the time)

[Edit: I've been sent STX versions of the German and English versions (not sure where they came from) but no French version)

The master itself might have been produced on an Amiga because the copy protection is relatively simple. But if you mean actually duplicated, I don't think so.

I seem to remember I wrote a small article about Dragon Flight copy protection long ago. It is a very special case because it creates a copy protected back up disk, with the same (or almost the same, don't remember for sure) protection as Union Demo.

I think the Pasti images I produced years ago were taken from unmodified disks. I see SCP images on the repository, but I can't check them right now.

I have made a set of the English version for ST and also the german version in IPF. This game is duplicated.

Here it is (UK version) @Kodak: can you store it on the FTP ? Thanks : https://we.tl/t-nblpn5GQX8

yes, the ST version was mastered on Amiga. However, the game was then duplicated with its format described, so i can generate a proper set of IPF for the ST version with no problem.

Yes, because you save on the backup disk, never on the original one.

New game from me for review:

Harrier Strike Mission (Miles Computing Inc) (1986) [KF CTR SCP STX] (KDK)

Looks like T02.0 is the protection on this disk. CTR stops at protection check in STeem and Hatari. STX passes protection check in Hatari but not in STeem. SCP passes protection check in STeem.

Well, of course. The whole point is that you can create the backup disk protection on the ST, but not the one on the original disk. But my point wasn't comparing the backup disk protection with the one on the original disk. I was comparing it with the protection on Union Demo, implemented by the same person that was originally a member of the TEX group.

Note that it is tricky to run the original Dragon Flight under emulation. You must create a backup disk (the game doesn't let you play without it), and the backup disk must be copy protected. Creating the copy protected backup disk image under emulation might be tricky. At the time, I created a Pasti image of the backup disk, and used Steem Save State feature to play the game.

The dump seems to be fine.

The CTR image doesn't run because the disk has a weak sector and the CTR format doesn't support weak sectors.

The Pasti image does work under Steem, but not always, it works sometimes depending on the randomization. The problem is that this is not a common weak sector and the software is rather picky when checking the protection. It doesn't just verify that it's weak. It verifies it has the expected characteristics. Not that different than the Dungeon Master protection.

It seems that the conversion to STX wasn't done accurately. Then the protection might pass or not depending on how the emulator randomization processes the weak sector.

Anyway, the game seems to be quite rare. Great contribution Kodak80!

The signal looks like the same type of protection as Dungeon Master. So no IPF :(

Harrier Strike Mission (Miles Computing Inc) (1986)

Actually it is the same protection as Dungeon Master. Initially I thought it couldn't be possible because the DM protection was patented by the developer or publisher. I even thought that it was designed by DM author. But some googling reveals some details that I wasn't aware. The on-disk copy protection (not the software side of the protecion) was invented by somebody called Kevin Kachikian, and started the patent process, by other company called "First Byte" a year or two before DM. Later, Software Heaven (DM's publisher), apparently acquired that company and with it, the patent for the protection used in DM.

I guess Miles Computing licensed the protection from First Byte before it was acquired. You can see the "FB" (First Byte) initials in the protected sector in both titles.

This is a fixed STX version that should run ok on every single run. Not thoroughly tested.
