Just tested a Magnum 8 mb Falcon card. With Franks adapter and the ATI card, is possible to use NOVA on Falcon with 12mb memory. Yes, some ST RAM is used for addressing.
It's available.

Little pcb for a NOVA internal VME ET4000 card ...
platine_klein.jpg
zweite_Version_klein.jpg
  • Parts list

VGA TSENG ET4000AX ISA 1MB graphics card
    FCC ID: HRGVGA9212

    Reichelt

1 pc. BGT SFP 304 (VME bus slot bracket incl.holder and screws)

    Kessler

    1 piece ALS164 (actually 74LS)
1 piece ALS05 (actually 74LS05 but not available)
    4 pieces M0207 1K
    1 piece KER 68P R5
    3 pcs.VS 100N X7R R5
    3 pcs. VS 1,0N X7R R5
    1 pc. PZF24-S
    2 pcs. PZF14
    1 piece KUDR05-RT (copper wire)
    1 pc. KUDR05-SW (copper wire)
    1 pc. SIL7A 1K (alternatively, SIL8A 1K and shorten one pin)
    1 pc.VGS64AC (VME bus connector row A + C)
    2 pieces SS3,2-SW (shrink tubing)

2 pcs. M3x10mm screws with flat head

    Wire wrap wire insulated 12m

    Assembly / assembly

    1. Solder the VME connector with the cables according to the circuit diagram including shrink tubing
... think about the double assignment with A17-A21 and DS0 as well as DS1
    2. Adjust the circuit boards (file) and glue them together
... use UHU Endfest 300 or superglue (gel), strong rubber and two clips with a paper underneath
    3. Mount the VME connector. Bend the pins of the A row so that it fits and press a little in the vice. Drill the circuit board and file the hole on the other side. Cut the M3 thread into the VME connector and screw it to the circuit board
    4. Solder the 1K resistor SIL network to the slot contacts C8 to C2 (LA17-LA23)
    5. Place slot contacts C2 AND C3 on the corresponding solder pads on GND.
    6. Solder 74XX245 U3 to pin 18 (slot C18 / D15) to U3 pin 11 (slot C11 / D8) all 8 data signals.
... because the VME connector covers pins on the ISA card
    7. Solder A17 to A21 to ISA pins C8 to C4
    8. Solder 4x GND cables into the 4 ground / GND solder pads
    9. Solder DS0 and DS1 to ISA pins C1 and A31
    10. Solder a cable from ISA pin A11 to the GND pin of the 74 IC on the card above
    11. Solder A1 to A19 to ISA pins A30 to A12
    12. Solder ISA pin A10 I/O CH READY into the solder pad that goes to pin 1 of the GAL
    13. Assemble all components on the add-on board
    14. Place the two VCC + 5V and the two remaining GND in the corresponding solder pads (strip long) and solder them to the ISA pins B1 / 31 B3 / 29 on the back and solder them to the piece board as well. Solder wires from the back between the board and ISA pins D18 and D16.
    15. On the GAL, solder pad that goes to pin23 with the AM signal (VME A23)
    16. Solder the solder pad that goes to pin 13 on the GAL with the signal IACK (VME A20)
    17. Solder / assemble all remaining lines / signals. See the wiring diagram ...

The graphics card doesn't need + 12V or -12V. ISA pin C9 / MEMR and C10 / MEMW are also not used.

A17 to A21 are assigned twice on the VME connector. DS0 and DS1 are also assigned twice. All cables on the VME connector should be 200mm long. Because of the OGFA GAL, AS is not used on the VME, instead of AM4 (A23) and IACK (A20) are used.

The NOVA driver T8 for the Atari Mega STE or Atari TT is used as the driver.

The last step is to adjust the VME cover. I use a 2mm drill, a chisel and a file for the cutout. The blue holder is screwed into the (2.5mm drilling) on one side and the other side has to be notched and glued with superglue. When everything is ready, you have to isolate the edge of the graphics card with a strip of scotch tape because of the metal cage in the VME bus slot.

In addition to tools, the pinout of the VME bus, ISA 16-bit bus and the NOVA VME circuit diagram are needed and you have to know what you are doing ...

Thats great work Frank! :)

Will you have any spare ones built up to sell?

BTW, did you get anywhere with your PCI GFX card board investigations?

 You are quite funny. If you hadn't started the project, I wouldn't have helped. Teamwork is always the best.
I am looking forward to my own card, since it will make things much easier. There are still things to be done, like getting the W32i to work.

Is that going to be sold or is it something you would have to build yourself? So many projects look great but require soldering small surface mount components I can barely see.

Maybe you can try to encourage him somehow to produce a new ET4000 batch.

I'm sorry, there will be a maximum of 2-3 more cards and that's it. When ?
When I put it together and check it.
Provided that the recovered integrated circuits (from damaged ISA cards) are functional.
There were a few pieces of new Tseng ICs, but they are out of stock and there will be no more.

So are those possible two or three cards spoken for? If not I would be interested in buying one if you are successful in building them.

Cards pre-reserved. There is no more.

Soon I will probably post the GERBER files and everyone will be able to make a PCB.

That card looks amazing! Thanks for releasing the files artik-wroc! Would also be super cool if we could replace the ET4000 + GAL by an FPGA/CPLD like Cyprian wrote :)
