Keyboard remapping numpad to arrow control keys

hi I am wanting to remap the atari control keys to the numpad on my laptop
when I try the number keys just default to the numbers above the letters

I am trying this for dungeon master so it is like the atari st key input with 8462 as the input for directions and 79 as turn keys

any help would be great I have no problem editing the mapping file I can get it working with qweasd keys but would like the number pad

The obvious question is: do you have NumLock enabled when editing? 4 on the top row will have a different key ID to 4 on the U key
