I'm trying to figure out how to do something that seems like it should be easy. I have a bunch of hardware synthesizers and I'm using Logic Pro on a Mac. All my synths are connected to a MOTU midi interface. I have connected my Mega STE to one of the in/out ports... I can do things like control the ST as an instrument (Maxymiser) but I would like to use some ST patch editor programs with my synths that expect the synth will be directly connected to the ST...
But the ST just sees the MOTU midi interface... the programs don't work. In Logic Pro 9 and older there was the Environment where you could do crazy routing between midi devices, and I would be able to make the ST directly connect to a synth using the midi interface like a bridge/mirror. But that functionality was gutted from Logic when it went to Logic Pro X.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone was using their ST in a similar setup and if there is any software out there that would function like the old Logic Environment where you can route midi devices in crazy ways. Obviously I could disconnect my synths from the MOTU and connect them directly to the ST, but that would be a huge pain switching everything back and forth all the time. I'd really like the ST to be integrated properly so I can use it for anything I want in my studio setup at any time.

Back in the days I used a MIDI switch matrix which allowed to route any MIDI input to any MIDI output. It was DIY but worked very well. Let me search for the schematics...

Ah, that sounds like a cool device. Would love to see the schematics if you find them.
I did find exactly what I needed to solve this using software.... it's a program called MIDIRouter. I have used it to forward the midi ports I have my ST and my Yamaha FB-01 on to each other and now it behaves as if they are directly connected as long as MidiRouter running in a terminal on the Mac. The ST sound editor I was trying to use now works perfectly!
MIDIRouter is here if anyone is interested in doing a similar thing:

Er, no it wasn't. The Environment is still in the current version of Logic Pro (10.7.9), although from about version 10.7.x it was officially made a legacy feature, which means it's now hidden by default (but still accessible). But the Environment has been there, exactly as it was in Logic Pro 1.x-9.x, for the last decade or so in Logic Pro X.Xyla wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 5:15 am In Logic Pro 9 and older there was the Environment where you could do crazy routing between midi devices, and I would be able to make the ST directly connect to a synth using the midi interface like a bridge/mirror. Thanks for this very interesting information. Do you know how and where the Environment can be made accessible in Logic Pro X?cb170 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:29 pm

I would also like to know how to access it if it is there. All I know is when Logic Pro X was announced it was said the Environment was being removed as legacy cruft because it was too scary for most people and no one was using it (Lol). I haven't seen it since... so I assumed it was true.cb170 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:29 pm Er, no it wasn't. Write your own program which accepts input from logic MIDI generating random midi notes in a select key which then outputs back into logic

Hold Option while clicking the WIndow menu, and "Open MIDI Environment" will be displayed.
Any existing key commands you have to open the Environment, or screen sets that open Environment windows will also work.
"While pressing and holding the Option key, choose Window > Open MIDI Environment (or press Command-0)."
