Conversion from .stx to flux image

Post by Supamax »

Hi,
is there a way to convert a .stx file to .scp/KF raw formats?

(Not using HxC - Long story)

I found a solution (using HxC, even if it has a bug regarding single sided images, and Aufit).

I'm still curious if there's another way to convert from .stx to flux, other than HxC ... :-)

Have you tried with Aufit ? Didn't try myself, but unless I remember wrong it was able to do such conversions.

I tried but Aufit cannot import .stx files :( .
It only accepts flux files (SCP and KF RAW).

You can use mame's floptool to convert from stx to whatever format mame supports (mfi is usually trivially convertible to any other resolved flux format). I've programmed a bunch of heuristics in there to try to guess how the track was actually done. They're of course not perfect. Doing better than stx is in my near plans though.

Thanks :), good to know, I'll test it.
It would be nice it f could convert from .stx to a flux format (I don not see one listed on the webpage). How do you convert from mfi to flux format?

mfi is kind of a flux format, only a resolved one (e.g. there's only one rotation). What you should do from it depends on what you want a flux format for though.

Are you telling me you managed to get this working ? Can you dump this to flux ?

I need to have this on real floppydisk

Yes, you have to use the latest release of HxCFloppyEmulator:
https://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_dri ... r_soft.zip
https://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_dri ... _notes.txt

After running HxCFloppyEmulator, you can drag your .stx files in its window and then you can save it in the wanted format (SCP, etc.).

HxCFloppyEmulator had a bug with single-sided images, but I helped the author by sending him many images, and now it's solved.

Sorry for the late answer!
You're right, this is not an easy program to convert from .stx to .scp :(.
It may look not protected but it indeed is, on track 00.0. It has no errors, but the track structure must be exactly preserved or the program won't load.

I did some tests, obtaining an .scp file (using HxC) from the .stx and then reconverting it to .stx with Aufit but it didn't work in Steem.
Below is my Dropbox link to the .scp file, however, just in case it may be useful for you to do some further real-floppy writing and testing (I cannot test with a real ST).

If some expert can help with this conversion he's welcome :).
