Wiki ?

Hi,
Did i miss something or the atari wiki is down ?

I want to learn more about :
- TOS
- GEM
- GDOS
- VDI
- MINT
- CPX
- ACC
- AUTO folder
- Xboot

Is there a good place (wiki) to start ?

However I'd really love to see a working wiki again, with login credentials from AF so spam bots would have hard time to pollute its content.

I have a collection of Atari related PDF books that I can zip and send you if you're interested, some in English, some in German, some in French. It can save you some time getting started. PM me if you're interested in some of those.

What is holding up the wiki getting up again? we are in 2023 now? whats it been down for 3 years?? Do we need contributions? $$ ?? what?

The Wiki is off-line because it was under constant attack from spammers and spambots, and existing entries plus new entries were being modified and were filling up with undesirable spam.

It needs suitable measures to keep these out plus better security in general.

This is possible, as there are other wikis that are working, for example:

• QL Wiki - https://qlwiki.qlforum.co.uk/doku.php?id=start

As Dal (the maintainer) is rather busy, we need someone who has both the time, knowledge and expertise to give it some TLC…

Wouldn't it be possible to allow users with more that 20 posts to edit wiki?

I think even users with the rights to post on AF would be more than enough.

Whatever the solution, it still needs someone to (1) update the wiki software, and (2) sort out the access data.

You have to be very careful with members log in details and passwords.

Well, all I can say is - it is an invaluable resource. I have tried to contribute to other WIKI - Atariwiki v3 and wiki.newtosworld.de. Both are nice, but this wiki was by far larger and more inclusive. I appreciate everything DAL has done.

I would be more than willing to help. I dont think I am savvy enough to take on something like that.. but I am more than willing to update.. transfer, clean or correct areas if directed as to what needs help.

If the Wiki came back I would help administrate. It would require a suitable amount of storage for images as there are lots waiting to be added on my hard drive

Me too. At the moment, hopefully for the next little while, I have the time to admin.
I did quite a bit of work on the wiki many years ago, rolling back bot edits, banning bot accounts, putting categories in the pages that people made, turning text tables into mediawiki tables etc

I can give write access to some trusted people (e.g. made many posts on this forum), who want to contribute or administrate that mirror.
(It is read-only because no user has write access, and adding users is disabled)

I don't have a copy of the latest changes to the official wiki the last time it was up, though.

And if someone wants to revive the original wiki, I can provide my copy of the database archive.
