Hatari 2.4.1 has been released

Post by npomarede »

Hello

Hatari 2.4.1 has been released !

This is a small bugfix release, fixing a few issues that were reported after v2.4.0 was released

You can get it from https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/ or directly in https://download.tuxfamily.org/hatari/2.4.1/

Sources are available, as well as prebuilt binaries for Windows (in 32 bit and 64 bit mode) and macOS (thanks to Troed).
(note that the Windows binaries don't include PortAudio/PortMidi libraries for now, only macOS version does)

Main changes since Hatari 2.4.0 :

- Fix some possible sound issues in STE/TT mode when converting CPU clock to YM2149 clock
- Fix regression in TT mode where video counter was not updated anymore on each HBL
- Fix VDI width alignment on 16 pixels
- Avoid some overhead when DSP is enabled in config but machine is not Falcon
- More consistent handling for outputs of logging and traces messages
- Fix some memory leaks
- Fix duplicate symbol name removal in debugger
- Improved macOS version with better support for different models (thanks to Troed)

Fixed programs:
- BLSPLAY.TTP module player for STE (fix sound glitches)
- HexTracker in TT mode (update video counter on each HBL)

See release-notes.txt for the full changelog http://hatari.tuxfamily.org/doc/release-notes.txt

Like with previous Hatari v2.4.0 release, binary packages of Hatari v2.4.1 come with EmuTOS v1.1.1.

However, EmuTOS v1.2.1 was also just released: viewtopic.php?t=42092

Especially if one is using Falcon emulation, or running MiNT, updating to newer EmuTOS version is recommended.

I was really hoping that while I had been busy maybe Hatari would have got Syncsquare support... hooray! :D I should get back to my new tune now... 8)

A user on the hatari-devel list just suggested that only certain file extensions might be allowed. Looking into the macOS GUI source code, even though I know nothing about Objective C, this might be the case: https://git.tuxfamily.org/hatari/hatari ... ler.m#n326

Frank, can you try if you can select the image if you rename it into something ending in ".hdv". For example "hd.hdv"?

i noticed today that Cyber Assaut from Trojan Software doesn't work in Hatari.
the intro is auto skipped before crashing on the title screen.
tried every TOS and machine config i could think of.

i can get it working on the old version of Steem v3.2
but same buggy loading problems with SSE fork.

no idea what the problem could be.
just passing the info on, with the hope it might get fixed. ;)

Does it work on real machine?

I also tried different TOS versions, also both 60 & 50Hz, and different EmuTOS versions. I don't see game crashing. After game title screen and it telling that it loads, it just freezes to a black screen, running constantly through 28 instructions. Most of execution is on these two addresses:

Code: Select all

$0002297a btst.b #$2,$fa01.w 49.87% (38704107, 774330524, 0, 0)
$00022980 beq.b $2297a 49.87% (38704106, 464682072, 0, 0)
Because there are no instructions executed from TOS, it has disabled all TOS interrupts.

PS. Replicants cracktro for the game has interaction I haven't seen before. Game starts by clicking on a button that's completely within bottom border!

I believe it does.
i also have a harddisk version which does exactly the same (black screen).

Did the game intro play through or does it also skip for you?

the game has an option for a light gun controller.
which defaults to mouse control if not found.
i wonder if the emulator is stuck in a loop, looking for it.
and firing the trigger of the gun during loading (skipping the intro).

all guess work on my part.

Hey guys, I'm not sure how I missed the 2.4.x releases, but I just want to say thanks a million for rewriting the RS-232 routines so that they work on the Mac.

I just finished calling a BBS using the Flash terminal program within Hatari 2.4.1. Worked great and didn't freeze the emulator like it used to for all those years. I'm very happy!

Have a couple Motorola DSP development boards.
One is PCI.
The DSP is "backward" compatible with the Falcon DSP.
Can Hatari access these cards, say when using Apex Media?

Thomas changed the Hatari RS-232 code from threaded to a polled version for 2.4.0 before release.

(SDL2 removed SDL1 functionality for killing threads, and due to not being anymore able to terminate the other thread when needed, and Mac lib-c not having fine grained file operation threading like e.g. Linux lib-c has, things deadlocked on Mac when using SDL2 for threaded device file access.)

No, DSP emulation is completely SW based.

If you want to try HW pass-through, the code you should be looking at is here: https://git.tuxfamily.org/hatari/hatari ... abFalcon.c

PS. AFAIK original MiST developer used Hatari and code pass-through when he was developing the MiST HW.

Hello, Hatari is a superb emulator. Is a new version planned? Has the project been discontinued? Are there any other emulators still in development? Thanks

What makes you think so? There is active development, as you can see here: https://git.tuxfamily.org/hatari/hatari.git/.

If you are simply looking at the last release version of Hatari, it looks like nothing has happened for nearly a year. Official versions can be 12-24 months apart. However, there are nightly binaries available if you want to try a new development version in case the Hatari developers have fixed something that you use.

I know some other projects will release new public downloads every few months. The Hatari developers do not work this way. Creating a new public version is something that is not done lightly.

I'll second that.

When there is a new public release there's usually a *lot* of features added and things fixed.

Just be patient, or try out the developer updates.

Hi
don't worry, new versions will come ... when it's time :) but development is still going on. On my side I have very few spare time at the moment, but I'm working on some new features in "background" and hopefully I can add them soon to the repository.

Do you guarantee it will be released this year?

Maybe , but the goal is also to release when there're enough new changes to do a release. In the meantime, as written above, people can also enjoy daily builds of Hatari which are most of the time as solid as the latest release.
