Great Idea, well done! I love the fact it's such a cheap solution and doesn't need the case to come off. I guess the downside is that you need to rely on the floppy to boot.

EmuTOS has a SD card driver that can be easily adapted to new hardware. (In fact, it only took me a few hours to make it work on the V4SA.) Porting that to Orion's STe SD card reader, and with EmuTOS in ROM, you would not need to boot any drivers from floppy, the SD card would be recognized at boot, just like a (albeit slow) harddisk. It would also bring write support.

This is brilliant! I've ordered the required parts. Does anyone know if it is possible to have a larger card and divide it up into many 32MB partitions and have the Atari see the partitions as individual drives?

What is the best way to go about this... Format the full size of the card? Format a 32MB partition on a larger SD card? Or source a micro SD of 32MB (if they exist)?

you can just format 2GB partition and use bigdos in the same auto folder than the sd driver

Verry nice job, many thanks.

I have tested with SD 2Gb and partition 32Mb and microSD 4GB with partition 500MB, works.
I have little problem with Bigdos, after lauch manualy (not AUTO Folder), the mouse clic not works correctly ?
I have tested with 520STE TOS 1.6.

I have create small hardware in microSD and SD card, more easy to use:

Wow, well done.

I'm having trouble with BigDOS on my Falcons, pity there are no joypad ports on my MegaSTE to try. It seems to work well on my STE with boot from floppy.

what type of SD card do you use ?
the best card to use are the smaller capacity one (like 2 or 4Gbytes) I'm not sure this will works with higher capacity like 32Gbytes (and you won't be able to use the full capacity anyway)
or maybe the sdcard reader is not the right type, can you post a photo ?

I tried a few SD cards and the only one that didn't work was a 16MB Canon one, same error. I guess not all cards are created equal.

I had a 512MB card from an old phone. This is the smallest card I have.

I formatted another card (Sandisk 4GB / FAT16) and filled it with about 30MB of software, this gets a bit further, it passes the boot stage (Bigdos, then sdextjoy) and goes to the desktop, but when I try to open the C: drive, nothing happens.

Still no luck with the 4MB card, and the 512KB one wouldn't even let the system boot. This is the reader I ordered https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322502815052

I've ordered some 2MB Sandisk cards, hopefully one of them will work.

** In the last post I'd said I'd put 30MB of data on a 4MB card, obviously this is impossible, it was actually 30KB of data. Now I know why I didn't get a reply

Bigdos has its problems, but its worked on every STe or Falcon I've run it on. Try running the program again after the machine has booted. On my Falcons nothing works after bigdos and I have to run the sdextjoy program after the machine has booted. You may have to run it a few times.

If you are having problems with multiple cards I'd put money on a fault with the reader or wiring if that doesn't work.

You mean 512Mb, 2Gb and 4Gb SD cards?

A normal 3,5 floppy is 720Kb.

Hello,

Today i have test on Falcon with microSD 8Gb and 1 partition of 512Mb, works, i have lauch sofware from SD.
But, i have clean the card using Diskpart (select disk X, Clean), after i have create partition with disk manager of Windows (10) with size 512Mb, and select FAT.

Thanks
Olivier

This might be a dumb question, but would/could this work?

Has anyone else using this with a Falcon had the mouse go nuts and the old keyclick drive/directory window problem occur?

Probably, but need to write new driver, the stick not emulate SD CARD.
I have see this information: CH375 firmware also built a dedicated protocol processing Mass-Storage mass storage devices

I have problem with STE and Falcon, after launch bigdos.
Reading a partition greater than 1Gb, for me is not very interesting.

ok I finally succeeded in adding the write function to the driver.
I will now try to add additional partitions features and release the new driver next week
