Mister on arcade cabinet using jammasd

Post by mapti89 »

Hello everyone,
I am trying to use my mister on my aracade cabinet using a jammasd
but I am having color issue.
the color seem to be redish but it is not constant.
it hapen on all the core and even on the menu. depending on what is diplayed on screen it can look good or bad, for example if there is only a small amounth of white in the picture, the white is bright. if there is too many white it turn purple.
exemple:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qzu_lgRzdw

until now i have made some test using all what I got at home:
-Mister
-Computer that output 15Khz
-Mvs (NeoGeo)
-Jammasd ( convert jamma to VGA )
-VGA to SCART converter
-Sony CRT
-Sega Blast City (arcade cabinet setup in 15Khz with jamma connectivity)

test i have done:
Computer + Converter ( vga/scart) + CRT -> OK
Mister + Converter ( vga/scart) + CRT -> OK
MVS + Sega Blast -> OK
Computer + jammasd + Sega Blast -> OK
Mister + jammasd + Sega Blast -> KO

vsync_adjust=0

; These parameters have the same format as video_mode.
; You need to supply both PAL and NTSC modes if you want vsync_adjust to switch between
; predefined modes as a base. This will reduce the range of pixel clock.
;video_mode_ntsc=0
;video_mode_pal=7
I have try with composite_sync=0 and composite_sync=1
but no change
SOG switch is off and I have no display at all if SOG is on ( on CRT or on the arcade cab)

Any help will be apreciated!

I have a similar issue using the MiSTer with I/O board to a J-PAC via VGA. The MS9 in my Astro City shifts red when bright elements are on screen. It does not do this with the Rpi4 hooked up to the same J-PAC via VGA. The SOG switch doesnt make a massive difference regardless of what position it is in. I figured it may be a cap issue on the MS9, but what I'm seeing is similar enough to what OP is seeing that maybe it isn't.

Why? If standard MiSTer is used, then i don't see any problem.
Converter boards from standard VGA/HDMI to Arcade monitor and from controls to USB are welcome.

Maybe the Jammasd does not terminate the RGB lines with 75 Ohm to ground before the video amp.

You can try to use Directvideo with HDMI->VGA convertor.

@Mrbig6251, at the moment my Mister is not on my arcade cabinet, but
as the jammasd emulate a keyboard, to my knowledge we cannot use the same keyboard for both player.

@paulbnl, If the RGB line does have an issue, i will have also an issue with my computer on 15Khz I guess

My next move is to test with an HDMI to vga converter! I will post the result.

Yes it's one keyboard for 2 players, it's mame configuration by default, it should work but thanks for your reply and interest to this problem

Any arcade cabinet can be divided to 2 generic parts: input (buttons) and output (monitor).
While i can't help with output part (it's very specific to each arcade if it doesn't provide standard input like HDMI), i plan to make a thread where i can explain how to connect buttons easily to MiSTer without changing anything in MiSTer.

Your computer outputs standard video 1.4volt @ 75Ohm impedance. I don't know what voltage and impedance the IO board outputs but based on your result it is probably higher than standard. With 75 Ohm termination this will be no problem but if the Jammasd does not terminate then it will be a problem.

I hope you have better luck than me getting one.
I have ordered them twice and on my third order for one of those and have yet to receive it.
Gonna throw a Pi 3 into a countercade machine and have the rest of the parts including a video controller for the 8" screen
but it takes in VGA signals....
