Steem and Sleeping in Windows 10

Post by stephen22 »

If I have Steem (v3_2) running when my PC (W10 x64) goes to sleep, after waking it crashes when I do certain I/O (not identified exactly what) and cannot be ended even by Task Manager. I have to reboot the PC. Anyone else had this problem or got any suggestions?

Thanks I'm familiar with this version which I've used regularly for years - it's stable and does what I want. The only problem has been occasional sudden I/O failure in Windows 7 onwards, sometimes just MIDI but occasionally total. Last time I enquired no-one had sorted that out. (have they now?)

Anyway, has anybody come across this problem with sleeping?

Obviously nobody.

I've tried the latest update of Steem. It hasn't had any problems with Sleep so far, but I note that there's no option to use the full available memory range of the 68000 (14Mb). I'm sure there's a good reason for this. But the biggest problem is I can't persuade it to connect to any MIDI OUT. (MIDI IN is OK - see picture)
MIDI I_O.jpg
So I'm stuck with the "obselete" version unless someone can show me what I'm doing wrong.

MIDI assignment bug fixed in latest update but if left on during sleep, crashes on awakening, just like the 3.2 version. I'm surprised no-one else has had this problem. Just have to be sure to close Steem if the computer's going to sleep.

Cool that MIDI works ok now.

I've just checked Steem 4.0.0 32bit and it wake up correctly under Win 10 64bit.

But, in the past I had similar problem with sleep. There were some problems with Steem's directx.

Which exactly version do you use?
4.0.0 or 4.0.1
32bit or 64bit?
And which WIndows 10? 32bit, 64bit?

Thanks for doing that.

It's called Steem32D3D and says it's 4.0.1.0
Windows 10 (x64)

i.e. I guess the same as you. From what I gather from the internet, other elderly programmes may sometimes have this problem too.
