Dust cover for Atari.

Post by Atarieterno »

Hi, Atarians;
I've been with Atari devices almost all my life, but I never had a dust cover distributed for those machines. In 1985 I used a cloth that my mother cut to the size of the ST computer and so I reached the 21st century where I started using a transparent plastic.
But this month I bought three dust covers, better late than never.
The opaque has the name Atari painted and the transparent one has the Fuji logo engraved (although it is not easily seen in this photograph). I also got some flexible dust covers, for the computer and the monitor, which seem designed by Spaceman of the KISS group.
Are rigid dust covers officially sold by Atari or are products marketed by third parties?
I will start this thread with images of the ones I have and then I will expand it with other models that I have seen online.

Here are some of my dust covers, protecting my SF314s, my SC1435 and my 520 ST.
The floppy drive ones were hard to find.

I have the dust cover for a Falcon from Best. Sorry no pics at the moment.

I also have 5 STs (TT030, MSTE, 2 Mega 4s and a 1040STFM) set up on a very long table. I use two bed sheets to cover those. Cool thing about the bed sheets is that they keep dust off of the table too.
ST: TT030 10/32m; Falcon 030 14m(2); MSTe 4m; MST 4m(3); MST 4m AdSpeed; 1040STf 4m(4); ST 4m(2); MF 44 w/SCSI2SD(3); MF 30(3); MF30 w/Drem

8-Bit: 320XE w/Ultraspeed+/FIXXL; 320XE; 130XE w/Ultimate 1m; 600XL w/Ultimate 1m; 800XL w/Omnimon XL/Boss XL/Omniview XL; 800 w/Incognito; 800 48K; Black Box Enhanced(3); 1050 Super Archiver II; 1050 Happy(2); XF551 360K(2); XF551 720K; HD Tower 480m

Please, upload an image of that dust cover for Falcon, when you can.

The sheet is a good solution but a bit drastic, no wife or mother will want to have a "ghost" in some room in the house. I have used transparent plastic conveniently cut to fit the computer, so that the device continues to look (although I am not sure that prevents my wife from continuing to hate my computers).

This is a dust cover for Falcon, recently marketed two or three years ago:

That is nice! Are those of the external floppy drives also original from that time or is it some home made?

This is a modern dust cover for Atari ST:

The floppy dust covers are from back in the day, they are both from different third party companies, exactly made to fit for SF314 or SF354 drives.
Both dust covers were Made in USA.

This model is a classic, with its drawings with polygonal shapes I have seen it in many places.

Mate, that is a double beauty, the one that is seen and the one that is not seen when you use the dust cover.

It was announced in several Atari-themed Facebook groups, but with its infamous system of ordering messages it is practically impossible to find that post.

Thanks for replay!

Off topic Notice: "Facebook, Youtube, Google"... systems of querying for YOUR data is atrocities on same level as atrocities of Hitlers Germany!
I can not believe that majority of Facebook, Youtube, Google... USERS have NO problem with that!
These companies wont even give you ACCESS to YOUR data!!!

In my spare time, I am working on "middleware" between you and these services. Purpose of this middleware will be to have full control over your data on these services! You will be able to: SEARCH, DELETE and further EDIT yours data on these services.

The clear plastic ones are kind of nice but just like most dust covers they don't cover devices plugged into the cartridge port such as the Midex or Unitor.

Yes, those are the ones I use. I have 3 of them, for my Falcon, STE and 130XE. They are nice because you can still see the computer and they have UV coating protection.

But, on the other hand, as you say, they don't cover anything else so that is their downside.

There was a guy over in the 8bit section at Atari Age that had his wife
doing very high quality dust covers. I had one custom made for my STacy
and it rocks...

Was it for ST/M only? I would swear I once had one on 1040STFM. You would not know the place to get these, would you?

No problem. These are very high quality designs. I love
the fact that they don't care a bit to do custom orders. I
just sent them the measurements and they took it from
there. I can't remember the price, but it wasn't out of this
world levels, worth every penny.

Of course, the quote on the lower right corner was in
response to a certain 8bit owner who made one for
his Amiga with "ST Killer" on it.

Appropriate since there were no portable production
Amiga models...

Nothing like detente, eh? :) :) :)
