Can the MiSTer be powered by a USB charger?

Post by nightshadowpt »

I am using an "Anker 60W 6-Port Desktop USB Charger" to power many devices at my desk (such as the MiST) and would love to use it as well for the MiSTer, instead of having another power brick laying around.

Can I replace the power brick with some kind of adapter from USB to whatever MiSTer's power connector is called?

Cheers,

Do you happen to know what the name (specs) of the barrel plug are for the DE10-Nano?

I'll try to find a cable on Amazon, but I have no idea how to check if its the right one.

I understand the whatever I choose, the positive needs to be in the center, but apart from that, no idea...

Thanks

I got mine off a local store... but they are pretty standard.
I *think* its the 2.1mm plugs, but got to measure it to be sure.

No.
It‘s 5.2mm positive voltage on inner.

Corrected - you can buy 5.5 outer / 2.1 inner diametet - that should fit.

Even 5.7 outer would fit.

Sorry to say no - you where talking about inner and I‘m about outer

When you buy a barrel plug, make sure it has solid round inner contact. Not just 2wire fork as some cheap plugs - you will have frequent loose of contact!

The plug needed is 5,5x2,1mm center positive. The power supply needs 5V. The required current depends on the cores and the peripherals. From testing I can say that 1,2A worked, but 2A is recommended. So yes, the power supply you posted will be ok!

power supply supports 100-240v 50/60Hz.
But of course read what is written on it before plug - i don't know if they supply the same model everywhere or not.

Yes. It will allow plugging USB devices that need more power (though there aren't many). 2A is plenty honestly.

Sorry to exhume this old post ;-) So can the DE 10 be powered by a standard 1A USB port (when used with no addon at all -- just the DE10 + the sdram) ?

Just wondering... I used to power up my MiST this way (by connecting it to my TV or amplifier or internet box, that was very cool).

cheers !

For anyone interested in the UK, I've used the following adapter from Amazon successfully:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-T ... 243&sr=8-2

I've tried this both with a normal 5W / 2A adapter, and also a 9W USB-C adapter with a USB-A converter. Both work fine!
