Ebay advertising accounts
Hi,
I've noticed that some users use this forum only to advertise their ebay auctions. It kind of annoys me for the forum to be used this way. I am not against posting ebay links, but I prefer it if it comes from members of the community and not traders. Do others feel the same way?

Re: Ebay advertising accounts
I agree. A minimum number of posts could be a solution.

Re: Ebay advertising accounts
I don't check out ebay regularly, so when there are some nice Atari stuff there, would be nice that someone shouts here.
Not that I buy much from ebay or still buy much Atari stuff nowadays.

Re: Ebay advertising accounts
I've just noticed that somebody reposted my auction on ebay even though I posted the link here on the forum before.
I, of course didn't ask for it and don't think we need to bring auctions to people's attention this way. Especially not it the Sales section. There I'd only allow own stuff or links to own auctions. It might be ok in the chat area where it goes down after a while.

Re: Ebay advertising accounts
We have been discussing this between us moderators.
One of the ideas would be to create a specific subforum only for Ebay auctions.
As long as there is no other spam by those persons, we do not object posting about auctions on Atari stuffs.
More user feedback would be appreciated though.

I agree with Robson, I don't mind people listing links to their own auctions, but find it annoying when they post links to auctions that aren't theirs for no other reason that sensationalising the fact that there's something atari related on ebay.Robson wrote:I've just noticed that somebody reposted my auction on ebay even though I posted the link here on the forum before.

Exactly like this example: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=34552

Re: Ebay advertising accounts
I have posted a couple of my ebay ST items for sale here in the past.
I have also posted questions for hardware in a software sub-forum and was quick asked no to do that every again.
So I put any ebay listings I want to share in the For Sale/Wanted sub-forum. I think that is a good place to put such threads.
Over on AA 8-bit forum, there is long running thread about the crazy prices for Atari stuff on ebay. If I recall, it has something like 2000+ postings? It is full of other peoples listings and our comments about them.
Adding a Ebay sub-forum might be a good idea. Maybe have a sticky at the top where we could post crazy listing we find on ebay? But then again there are already a LOT of sub-forums here. The Moderators here are very good, and I'm sure they will make a good decision on this topic. But above is my 2 cents of input.

Re: Ebay advertising accounts
I think I told that guy posting ebay threads I didn't like his post because the language in the posting was kind of shady. I don't have a problem with ebay threads in and of themselves. I'm also ok with telling someone when I think their post is bad. But I wouldn't really mind a rule or a subforum either
Re: Ebay advertising accounts
I'm completely against it, I think that members should be able to trade with each other, but 'advertising only' accounts should be against the rules.
This used to also happen on the Atari Facebook pages, back when I used them. Even there it was just as unwelcome.

Re: Ebay advertising accounts
I too agree with some here, perfectly OK and normal to post links of your own items, I don't personally understand posting other peoples items. Naturally everybody is going to have a different perspective of what is ethical. Have to say, kudos to Robson and his current Falcon auction. I think I might put my CT60e 512mb Falcon up, then again it's my sole Falcon, oh no, no, no, I enjoy it too much.
