Re: Magic mac open sourced
It's actually not MagiCMac that's been open sourced, but an emulator called "AtariX" by the same author. AFAICS there are no sources for MagiC, only a binary.

Re: Magic mac open sourced
Is it possible to contact Andreas over gitlab site?
He wrote that this is succesor for MagicMac - I wonder how MagicMac is different then Magic for Atari?!
As I understand MagicMac is same as Magic for Atari plus Atari hardware emulator. If this is true, then this could be modified and compiled for real Atari computer?

Re: Magic mac open sourced
I've asked him just recently and he didn't confirm any rumours about inability to access his source code -- he just has "too many media and too many archives and too many years ago". He said he's going to take a look, so ... fingers crossed.
Re: Magic mac open sourced
There are no sources for MagiC at all, just binaries. It's "only" the actual emulator that has been opensourced. So there is no sense in porting this to an actual Atari, unless you want to run MagiC at 1% of it's native speed.calimero wrote:As I understand MagicMac is same as Magic for Atari plus Atari hardware emulator. It would be great if MagiC was open sourced, although not very likely based on his old statements:mikro wrote:He said he's going to take a look, so ... fingers crossed.
Let's hope he has changed his mind since 2003Regarding open source: As long as I am maintaining MagicMacX, MagiC
will not going to be open source. Further, it is unlikely to become
open source later, because the source code is nearly 100% assembler
und hardly understandable.

Re: Magic mac open sourced
@joska I understand now. So Magic Mac itself is consist from Atari emulator and unmodified Atari Magic.
Andreas at least did not have harddrive crash and did not lost source code

Re: Magic mac open sourced
Fantastic news! I'm no MagiC user myself but I like the minimalistic and modular approach used in e.g. MagiCDesk. I'm tempted to see if the tools/desktop can be adapted to work with MiNT/XaAES.

Re: Magic mac open sourced
!!!
This two topic ("The end of Calamus: invers Software closes on March 31, 2018" and "Magic mac open sourced") are in direct connection !!
From german wikipedia Calamus article:
"However, MagicMac (X) only runs on Mac OS X 10.6.8 machines, Mac OS X Lion is no longer supported because the Apple Carbon Framework, originally introduced as a bridge technology from Mac OS to Mac OS X, no longer supports becomes. Andreas "Kaos" Kromke, however, worked on a new Cocoa-based emulator - working title "Atari X", which is in the advanced beta stage and is already running under the Calamus SL R8. Andreas Kromke has discontinued the development of "Atari X" and handed over the source code to Calamus SL developer and distributor Ulf Dunkel."
It is look like that now, when Ulf Dunkel decide to close Calamus and iCalamus further development, that Andreas decide (or both, together with Ulf) to publish MagiC and AtariX source code

Andreas did send AtariX to anyone who asked though and ASH is still selling MagiC Mac X. He even plans to open source KAOS, his TOS 1.04 modification.calimero wrote:

Re: Magic mac open sourced
It builds with the latest XCode fine — but only in 32-bit mode. The software is still using some Carbon API calls that don’t work in 64-bit mode (it also means AtariX won’t run on the next macOS release since that’ll only fun 64-bit code).tyk wrote:"Bugs and Agenda".."Application should be created with latest XCode"Frank B wrote:https://gitlab.com/AndreasK/AtariX

Re: Magic mac open sourced
Yeah. I was able to build it on my mac. There's a binary version in the archive for those that want to play with it. You just need to pull the repo with "git clone https://gitlab.com/AndreasK/AtariX"
