Gianna Sisters - Was (not was) single disk crack

Post by Zippy »

I mentioned this release in the bit I've done for the "cracking" section in volume 2 of Marco's book, so I thought you guys might like to see it and read the text file as I've never seen this version for download anywhere.

This was the first cracked game I got on the ST and with the source code for the hack loader + the text file with all the details of the protection it was a major influence on me starting hacking on the ST, so it was one of the few disks that I kept when I got rid of my ST collection. You can see where I got the line "Do I make it sound easy... It wasn't!" for the War Heli crack, that was me years later saying to myself that I'd finally equalled those guys and so it was OK to bullshit at the same level. :)

I really enjoyed reading both your post and the readme.1st file :)
I also understand why you got influenced to start hacking, I almost want to have a go at cracking a game after reading this :D
Don't believe everything that is true.

And remember, Rob did all of this with Sid. I remember him watching him crack Anarchy with it, it looked so primitive compared to what everyone else used but obviously got the job done.

Hi Zippy. Always very interesting to read you stories :)

Btw, you might be interested in checking this thread: http://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=32007

Check the details about the Mastertronics budget release that seems to be not working correctly. It sounds like they used a crack. I remember you said you did that kind of work for budget publishers. I guess it wasn't you in this case, but I thought you would be interested.

Interesting, I don't even remember seeing "Rogue" at all, but what a great way to implement the protection. :)

For the stuff I did for budget re-releases they said the duplicators couldn't handle copy protection or even "special format" disks, so I assume it was somehow faster and cheaper to duplicate standard disks.

I still have some of those disks and it was titles like Iron Lord, Shinobi, Afterburner, Golden Axe, Microprose Soccer, Forgotten Worlds, Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, LED Storm, Predator 2, Dynasty Wars, Strider, King of Chicago, TV Sports Football, Strider 2, Last Duel, Star Wars Trilogy and ESWAT.
