Ah, that is interesting. Any idea how the VIDEL was to do it if they had released TOS 5? I notice that even under Hatari, the TT High is grayed out in TOS 4.92.

So I wonder if they simply emulate the TT shifter, and still detected if there was an ECL monitor connected. Anyone in this thread try 4.92 on real hardware?

That's the program putting colour on icons... in a dialog box. Not only the falcon or the TT but both with a more colours video mode can do that as well.
For the TT, you will need extra video hardware if you want high rez and high colour.
For falcon, you can get away with stock falcon on 800x600 in 256 colours.

JFL programs looks great with colourful icons in menus and dialog boxes.

I am talking about the standard AES ones.

ah yes... brings back old memories... was running that on my Falcon back before y2K.
You can also download it from my website.

IIRC, It is buggy and slow but usable.
The main thing for it is the reentrant TOS for MINT, the colourful desktop is just a bonus. At that time XaAES was still a baby, so TOS 4.92 was like the only choice to run a new AES for Mint (other than the non reentrant built in TOS). Of course, until NAES came out shortly. Also MagiC was far faster than the Mint/Tos4.92 combo for nice looking desktop & multitasking.

If you are not using it with MiNT but just as a normal colourful desktop, then you can use Colour TT or Colour STE to give you a colourful desktop without the huge RAM usage of loading an entire OS.

Hmm, interesting. I was thinking a pretty upgraded TOS for a minimal nice look and still be able to play games from it, since launching a lot of games from MiNT makes them crash.

Games directly access hardware and fixed memory locations.
This does not go nicely with Mint whose mainly juggle several programs in memory.

Exactly my point. Main reason I want SuperVidel is so that I don't have to try to get Videl Inside to look right on my wonky monitor for Calamus SL 2015, which requires a minimum of 800x600@256.

Speaking of the possibility of another run of the Supervidel board...

Anyone that's deep enough in the hardware of the supervidel who can make a reasonable stab at speculating around making it work on other Ataris?
What would be needed to make it work in an ST/STE/MSTE/TT? If it is at all possible, it would likely make another run easier to both finance and more economical. Not to mention benefit driver development.

Is there a point in redesigning it with a different FPGA, to bring down manufacturing costs and/or get more FPGA space?
Updated my guides as of june 28th, 2016. Check'em out and feedback!

Hell, a supervidel compatible VME board would be cool too.

I would also be interested in a SuperVidel as I just got my CT60e installed and so on.

Hmm, I don't think I had previously seen a picture of one before. I thought it just passed through the VGA port on the Falcon's motherboard, but that clearly has a DVI port. Is that for the second display?

Check here for more info;

http://nature.atari.org/

Some relevant text:

"Dual screen output at up to 1920x1080, one screen on VGA and one on DVI. Recommended only up to 8bit mode right now. We don't have a dual channel DVI output, so we can't do dual DVI screens."

HTHs.

Cool, that's what I thought, since I recall seeing a video of someone with two displays on a Falcon. Simply fantastic! I kind of want to try doing some more serious things with mine, which is why I badly want a SuperVidel.
