Nothing to add - I fully agree, esp. with the point of preservation.
But: I still don't really think Abandonware (and therefor hosting them) is fully legal. I don't say, go to jail for doing it but clearly do not wonder if someone is offended by it.
Let's all hope Atari Legend gets back, with or without downloads!

And once again we'd like to welcome the village idiot, DoomMaster... He's been banned on DoomMaster, he's been banned as RetroGeek... now he's back for a third try as the infamous already MegaMan...
Dude... you have some serious problems... I strongly suggest therapy or better yet, look up Mental Institution in the dictionary...
If anyone doubts me, please look at his posts and notice the idiot once again has posted all sorts of replys defending DoomMaster and saying how great a chap he is...

Please stop attacks on DoomMaster, maybe he's an idiot, but there's idiots on earth and that not a scoop !
Maybe this person suffers and need help, and remember it's always more attractive to attack someone weak.
Also, i don't think he has something to do with AL closing.
All i want is AL back with ALL DOWNLOADS !!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW !!!

step 1: introduce bug, step 2: fix bug, step 3: goto step 1.

So, is this a copyright issue?

Also, how about hosting them 'somewhere' and use torrents instead? I know, people behind firewalls may be screwed, but if there is no alternative we may have to give it a try.... I feel a bit responsible too, Silver know why...

I mean lets face it, while me Brume and Ducky planned the site we knew that there was a slim chance that something like this could happend. Now it has happend and we have to first look at why it happened and then we need to take the appropriate steps to get back online.
And as for the server owners pulling us offline without a warning, I am sure that is a standard policy in matters like this. If I owned a large hosting company that would indeed be a policy I would use.
As far as good support goes I am abit confused, I filed a support ticket on Sep 17 16:39 and they haven't got back to me so far.... that is the only annoying thing so far in this debacle.
If it is possible to save the downloads we will do our best to make sure they stay where they are.... this is if the complaint is about the downloads at all.

Well - does any of you have a mirror of the site and sort of unlimited web access?
It might be a good thing to use a dyndns.org account to have AL online until someone really and legally tells you why the server has been shut down and that the existing contents have to be removed partially or wholly (which I wouldn't like myself).

Somebody can explain me why they were given an official agreement to piblish that mag even though they provide copyrighted Material and Atari-Legend is closed for the same reason.....
This is really upsetting !

Doommaster, Megaman etc.
Forgive me if I missed something here but,
Is there any real evidence that Doommaster is actually indirectly responsible for the Dload site being shut down? I would like to hear his own "honest" reply to this question.
I can agree entirely with the fact that he is a bit of a prick, and indeed seems intent on deliberately winding people up and causing trouble, but is he really responsible for this mess?
Could it be that he is not at all responsible, and is in fact now using these accusations as a means of getting a name for himself, some badly desired attention and a misguided sense of power to fill the pitiful hole that is his existence?, if so, then could this be why he is re-connecting using other names ???
I am no psycologist, but I have met plenty of sad weirdos in my time, and most of them are just actors who thrive on sympathy and attention, as they have long since lost the means of making their way through life via. normal methods.
Either way, I would pull the lever myself!
Hope the site is back up soon!

Re: Doommaster, Megaman etc.
I think most people took the post on Page 1 of this thread by 'Mega Man' aka 'RetroFreak' aka 'DoomMaster' to be a confession of responsibility.
There were rumours before this apparently but this post sealed it for many people.

Hmm, maybe,
But I do not see getting some copyright lawyers to cut off an FTP as being as bad as "closing down most ST sites, and nobody can prevent it".
If this Doommaster is so good, and so angry, then why are you reading this post and indeed using this site? surely he would have "hacked" the site from any number of I.P. addresses by now, and probably be inside even my PC by now, but then even if he could do this he would'nt, because then nobody would read his posts, or see the trouble he is causing, he is no hacker, just a sad little net nerd with no friends.
I bet he is really pleased with the hastle he has caused, and he does'nt even have the guts to admit it in person.
The best cure for him would be to ignore him completely, I would imagine this would hit him far harder than any insults or virtual fist shaking.
Of course this is all assuming he has actually blown the whistle on all our fun, as I would hate to hurt his feelings otherwise!

We still have no clue who, what or why ... We have been trying to contact the hosting services without success so far ... But we will get answer soon now, I'm sure ...
In other news ... If/When we get back, I already have a great juicy update for all you guys!

Let's just focus on getting all that which is not illegal back online now!
Cheers,

I have just checked a couple of Amiga download sites, and it appears that the ADF images for Workbenches and the kick ROMs are no longer available, and games are hard to find all of a sudden, perhaps this is somehow related to a bigger picture of software companies acting like the bitter old ladies that they are?
Just thought this may be relevant, sorry to mention the "A" word

Great news!!! When it comes to downloads, I don`t care that much. Even though there will most probably be no complaints by anyone actually owning any copyrights (if anything is still (c)...), there might always be some destructive people attacking your website... shame on them.
@ RetroGamerUK
The Workbench and Kickstart are still distributed commercially (e.g. by Cloanto), so it wouldn`t be ok to offer them for download. The people who did where asked rather friendly to take them off their sites, I heard. No lawsuits or whatsoever
