CosmosEX installation into MegaST as floppy replacement

Post by atari66 »

I want to substitute the internal floppy of a MEga ST with a CosmosEX. Problem is the ACSI cable (I don't think the ATARI internal ACSI/SCSI converter would work). I only found http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.ph ... hilit=mega - but even their suggestion to buy an adapter from http://www.lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=92 (originally for Ultra Satan) would not work directly, as the cable is about 5cm too short. Did I miss anything, is there any "standard" way?

happy hacking

You may consider requesting a custom cable which is long enough to meet your needs?

Update: with the adapter http://www.lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=92 and "20 Pin Ribbon IDC Female/Female Flat Cable" from e-bay everything works perfect

I'm assuming you're going to have to alter the front of the case where the Mega's
floppy normally resides?

I had to alter my STacy's case when I put a 1.44 meg floppy in. Take your time
and be patient when working on that old plastic. :)

correct. I'm not the best when modifying such cases but I managed to do it :)

I painted the faceplates on a couple of different
scenario's like this. Just for aesthetic purposes,
you might want to consider that.

Thanks for the pictures! :)

Nice job!

Just curious, Any issues with the long DMA cable?

no issues with long cable - not surprising. The original cable to the internal scsi drive is quite long too (unfortunately it does not fit the CosmosEX plug)

long term I need to fix the top side of the cutout and then find a some grey plastic tape to matchup colors :)
