Extract ST/MSA images - many at once

Post by nagual »

How can I extract a lot of ST/MSA files at once?
Using ST/MSA file name as folder to extract image at this folder...

Linux/Windows/Atari solution if any ?)

Very important is - MANY at once, not one by one...

I can convert images one by one, but I just don't have time to extract a ten of thousands ST and MSA images one by one (HDD from my friend, he quit atari and now I have his all archive).

Best regards :-)

The HxC software tool might be able to do this. A while back I wrote a shellscript to do something more close to the opposite, you might get some inspiration from that: http://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23466

Hi Sync !

I don't want convert images to other format - want to extract REAL FILES from images:-)
So, I can do this one by one using HxC software, but, when you have a hard drive full with images named 1.st, 2.st etc..without any description, I just don't have time to extract images one by one.

So, if I have file named 1.st, I want extract content (real files) on folder named as image - 1.

I understood your question just fine. Please see my script for ideas on how to batch extract files from images. The solution to "one by one" is "script".

In Linux console...

* Convert MSA files to uncompressed ST files with a Hatari tool:

Code: Select all

for i in *.MSA; do hmsa $i; done
* Extract files from those with MTools:

Code: Select all

for i in *.ST; do dir=disk-$i; mkdir $dir; mcopy -s -m -v -i $i "::*" $dir/; done
Note: MTools requires disk to be in MSDOS compatible format. This is not true for all Atari disks.
