Max possible lines that can be used (and will certainly be used at some point): 276

... and if you want to be REALLY future proof, 18 (IIRC) pixels to the extreme left of line 277 are actually possible to use as well.

413 horisontal pixels is the maximum I've managed to get, but it's dependent on wakestate and the border opening technique.

Note there's also a 416 x 281 display size for plasma effect, but I wouldn't call it "future proof". :)
Hopefully your extra lines come at the top.

Is there a "test suite" (could be a set of apps/demos/games) of all video tricks used on STE in low/med/hi(?) resolutions (overscan, palette shifting, 50/60Hz...)?
My SC1435 CRT is dying and I would like to evaluate different replacement solutions using a LCD...
I know it may not be the best topic to ask this question (maybe in hardware?), but after having a look at "brag pages" of Steem SSE and seeing how good it is I'm asking here first :D
Yeah, that's the goal of those pages.
I think there's a thread here about the best LCD screens (also capable of high), but I'm not sure overscan is considered.
To check the border sizes for example, Overscan Demos screen #6 (Madonna) is convenient (compare with Steem's sizes).

I'm changing my mind.
Next version will be version 3.9.0 instead of 3.8.3, I'll open a new thread on release day.

Why:
- Don't think there will be a release end February 2017 like last years.
- There are still a couple of funny new features, like gamma control, dongle emulation, sound cartridge emulation.
- People will be more motivated to upgrade to the new version and there are many bugfixes.

What ? No lightgun emulation planned ? Donald Trump will be president then, and he is gun supporter
There are some releases which work only with that.

Which ones? I wasn't aware of that.

EDIT: right, I found some Trojan Software titles.

It's intriguing. Should it be emulated by the mouse? Another device?

West Phaser, French edition is lightgun only too. There should be some guide for SW too.
I guess that mouse should be it, unless there is some popular, cheap PC/USB gun.

Westphazer exists in 2 releases : Westphazer for use with gun and Steve Mc Queen Westphazer, playable with gun, mouse and joystick.

All it is visible at Atarimania. Real question is: did they (diverse publishers) use same or different lightgun HW and interface ?

some games use a different hardware interface, with different routines, which means you can't use the same lightgun on all the lightgun games.

It has to be noted that loriciel gave the routine in ASM to use the westphazer gun in any other game if the routine is used.

Is Steem going to feature CRT-filters anytime soon like Altirra for example?

Hi, please check this post:
http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.ph ... 50#p295082

I need to be convinced first because there's a real lot of direct3d code involved in WinUAE, which means overhead, and it makes options still more complex, all this for ugly artefacts on your screen.

In Steem, you have options 'Interpolated scanlines' and 'PAL aspect ratio', and soon gamma control.

If you mean post there, maybe a new thread for this (big) issue would be appropriate.
