Atari meetup in Brisbane, QLD (first in a decade!)
Hi guys,
just in case there's a hidden Atari fan from down under lurking around -- me and a three other Atari guys have decided to organise a small Atari meetup in my house in Nundah, if nothing changes then the date is set to the next Friday's (18/11/2016) evening, 7 or 8pm.
Everyone with an Atari heart is invited! :)

I'm often in Brisbane, should be up there over Christmas but unfortunately won't be able to make it there for this
EDIT - a couple of potentials users in the area are ralcool and blaylok. Don't know them personally but touched base here on the forum in the past

Ragstaff: thanks for the names! blaylok's coming and I've sent a PM to ralcool, so let's see. :)
If this turns out to be a success, we can do it on a regular basis (every 2-4 weeks...) so perhaps anyone would be able attend.

Hey all.
It is the night of the meet, but no I am unable to make it due to distance.
I do hope it turns out a success, with some photos to share of the evening.
Cheers!

Re: Atari meetup in Brisbane, QLD (first in a decade!)
First meetup in over a decade and it was fun. Thanks Mikro for pulling this together and providing the location.
One of the groups Atari Falcon was revived/fixed. Dead Hard disk and Floppy drive was not working. Both resolved during the meetup.
Courtesy of Miro lending me his disk collection until the next meetup...
Software preservation Aussie style. Here is an STX dump of Rally Cross which is currently missing from Atarimania:

It was fun and success, indeed. Thanks everyone for coming. We'd like to make another one sometime during December (before Christmas), fingers crossed.

Re: Atari meetup in Brisbane, QLD (first in a decade!)
Thanks to blaylok I could tick another thing from my wishlist -- seeing a MIDI game in action!
Of course, we couldn't fire up anything else than Substation: The sucker with 1 point is blaylok :D, kodak80 has the second place and surprisingly I managed to kick their butts ;-) gazak28 was amused just by watching us.
However my joy didn't last long, just a few seconds before end of the round my beloved SC1435 has gone bad and I have very bad feeling about it. Damn.
Anyway, it was another nice meeting, I'm really getting addicted to this kind of Atari sessions!

Re: Atari meetup in Brisbane, QLD (first in a decade!)
blaylok and I think mikro might have been practicing Substation before tonights midi hook-up to beat us so convincingly.
Maybe we need a re-match?
It was sad to see mikro's SC1435 monitor stop working after all the hard work he did to revive it. I hope it can be fixed again.
I have to say it was great fun playing Substation and the midi connectivity worked well with 2 Falcon's and a 1040STE all running the game.
Thanks mikro for hosting again and we are all looking forward to seeing blaylok's midi gear in action next time.

I reckon that mikro was practicing substation for sure.
Myself and Kodak had no chance
Definitely fun times though

It was certainly fun watching grown men, reliving their Rambo dreams.
Lots of fun and looking forward to the next meet.
Cheers for a good night, sorry I had to leave early but work next day.
Hope you have some luck with the monitor Mikro, but you were so smoking hot in the game, the monitor just quit.(lol)

Re: Atari meetup in Brisbane, QLD (first in a decade!)
The number of Atari-positive Queenslanders is growing, this time we had a special 8-bit edition thanks to Daniel and James who brought us many jewels like Atari 1200XL, Atari 800 (stuffed with the Ultimate 1MB, SIDE and tons of other stuff), Atari 600XL, very rare 1090 expansion and as a bonus, factory sealed 2080 ST labeled as 'Marketting sample' (yes, double T ;-))

Thanks Mikro for hosting us all. We took up most of your house for the evening.
It was fun and interesting to see the 8 bit Atari's in action. Also, nice to meet Daniel and James. The Queensland Atarian group is indeed growing.
Can't wait until the next time.

Re: Atari meetup in Brisbane, QLD (first in a decade!)
As Mikro has reminded me about this post, I thought it was worth an update that the local Queensland Atari group now totals 11 members (including Mikro, as a founder member).
We are meeting regularly to share knowledge and spending time on these old birds.
Thanks to Mikro for getting this all started.
If there are any others in Queensland and interested in joining us at a meetup, please PM me or reply here. We generally meet north of Brisbane but this is flexible.
