KryoFlux - Write what you want!

It's been some time... and we said we'd make it happen one day. So without further ado... here it is:

KryoFlux v2.50 with write support for STREAM files. Just dump a disk and write it back. No analysation (which we still recommend) required.

You know how to submit stream images - please send a few that do not work; if you already see in the GUI, that the index is off, or there is NFA... no need to supply those.

Not sure if it is my floppy drives (I have tried a couple and both get the same error), but I regularly get the following error when writing back a stream Kryoflux capture to disk:

08.0 : Control command rejected by the device

Here are a couple of screen grabs for Marble Madness. The STX file created by AUFIT 0.2c from the Kryoflux stream capture works in Hitari.



Sometimes when I try the write again, it writes without the error but not for this one.

When I open the stream capture with AUFIT track 08.0 looks normal:



The testing so far works with non-protected disks but I have not managed to get any games to write back with a stream capture. I need to do some more testing though.

I am not an expert on the types of protections used on Atari disks so am not sure if my testing is of much use. I should add that I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit and was using the 64 bit DTC program.

The capture was done with the command:

DTC -fMarbleMadness -i0 -i2 -i4

I moved the RAW files into a folder called Marble and wrote back using:

DTC -fMarble\MarbleMadness -w

FYI DrCoolZic, AUFIT 0.4c doesn't seem to open Kryoflux RAW folders but 0.2c does. Again, not sure if this is because I'm running x64 Win8.1.

I used the wildewutz GUI and set the option for stepping to neutral. This helped.

I managed to get Marble Madness working. Just wrote the stream back to floppy and it worked this time.

Still having issues with James Pond 2. The stream from the disk I created is here and looks messy compared to the original stream I captured:

Well, that's the default selected by DTC, so chances are it was something else... anyway, glad that it works for you now

Disk is identical to the original and is error free, just checked with our analyser.
If you convert it to CTR it runs in Hatari as well, you just have to wait a bit during loading probably for decryption and/or decruncher.
Maybe clean the drive in your ST used for testing?

It hadn't occured to me to clean the ST's drive. Will do this. Have already cleaned the drives used for capturing the streams.

One thing I have noticed is that for me it becomes difficult to find floppies I can write on reliably (especially on PC). SCP provide a test to check floppies and in most of he cases the floppies (some just out of a box of unused diskettes) are just not writable correctly?
Even on ST floppies I can read and image without problem cant be written successfully?

So it would be nice that KF writer could perform a verify after writing?

Yes, verify is planned - testing the disk is completely useless, since write result does not depend on the test result. Each attempt must be treated as an individual thing: you cannot say that just because a previous write of uniform cells succeeded a new one would - there are many contributing factors.
If you want to do something like that though, you could simply write an ADF file with verify enabled to a disk to see if it is good or not.
Much more reliable than just writing a simple empty pattern and the verification is real at the data level.
But in this case the disk written is actually good and the original sample is good as well, so the most likely weak spot is the drive in ST.
