Disk Drive Sounds

Yes! It's coming, it's already working. I'll soon upload a beta with floppy drive sounds, but it's embarrassing, I couldn't find samples of the Atari drives, so the emulation uses the samples of... WinUAE!
And it doesn't seem fair to rip the samples in SainT.
So, if someone could contribute some samples it would be much appreciated.

The beta with drive sounds is here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/steems ... SE%20Beta/?

I repeat a call for real Atari samples.
Also hints about "which sounds are needed when" are welcome, the current emulation is basic (but fun).
Enjoy!

Steven, are you using the "improved drive sounds" hosted at winuae.net ? It's a 10MB file that has ST sampled sounds, I think.

By the way, this is a great idea!

Thx for the pointer as my internet searches didn't find it.
It's not too clear what those wav files are, the long "click" one isn't usable at all, and the other ones sound much like SainT.
I think i'll use the spin and startup ones, use my custom seek, and a filtered version of the amiga click.
The call still stands, better sounds welcome.

Slightly off topic....
How about using F1 racing car sound ?
Makes a nice change and fun as well, especially if it loads faster than original FDD. :P

A bit late but i tested and did some disk sounds recorded from my ST, as i did not have any proper recording equipment (i used my DSLR video function to get sound) so was i not expecting any good results... but it turned out ok i think.

Here is Epson SMD-480L sounds... loud seek :)

Thx a lot! It's not late, Steem v3.6 won't be released before a while.
I dislike using the sounds of SainT, out of principle.
The louder the merrier! I'll check those.

I used Shadow of the Beast when recording the disk drive sounds... it had long seek times.

And also here is a video i did showing the disk drive loading Road Blasters :D

Your samples are fine really. Good enough for the release IMO. Especially the step click is right, but I like the rattling seek too.
I like the spin less, but it's better than ripping SainT.
