Can you guys please tell me what Ram Cards you are using and what Ram Chips you are using? Eg: 3 chip parity - non parity 8 chip, 9 chip, brand name. "Atari" Ram cards or Aftermarket Ram Cards, number of slots and total memory being used?
I am going to compile a list of Cards and Ram Chip that work with the images that we have available at the moment
I have done some - very limited testing, with two Ram cards with the same ram chips but will only get one system to boot where the other will not boot at all.
The Image I have used is correct and working with no issues so I know its not the image, it is only when I swap around the Ram cards that I have booting problems. The original image of Marks is the one I want to test and get up and running but still have not had a chance to image that onto a SCSI disk drive as yet to test, " Marks was the image that started this thread in the first place"
Has anyone else been able to get Marks Image up and running?

Please can you get back to me a let me know of your progress?

I dd-ed the richard's image. the system starts booting ASV and 5sec. after boot:hd(0,0)unix I got this message:
PANIC: vfs_mountroot: no root filesystem

any ideas?

Hi Plamen,
You will find no one who can help you with ASV.
ASV is outdated - no one cares about the further development.
Try Mint - thats pretty good.

Ah, right, that was the thread where I got the link to those ASV images a couple of years ago. Just dropping by to say that the richard image boots on my TT, but I can't get it to recognize the ethernet card. Does anyone know whether it needs to have a working battery to be used with the SysV? NetBSD/atari and Linux/m68k have no problems with it as is.

Didn't try the other image yet, but it seems severely damaged - from the richard dump, I can do a loopback mount under Linux to have a look at the filesystem, but no such luck with asv-mark...

As for pictures, I have a couple on my G+ page, where I guess wbyte found me.

ASV Unix works for me with a Mighty Mic 64Mb memory expansion and 4Mb ST RAM.
I remember some TT's had to be sent to Atari for a small hardware mod to allow ASV to run. I do not remember what they did, probably only some change to SCSI termination?

I don't think the type of TT RAM card matters much. I have one built by Catch Computer that's currently equipped with 32MB...

But, does anyone have an idea how to configure SysV for networking? I have both a Riebl and a PAM card, but when the system is starting up, all I get is the usual error message about a missing /dev/la0:

/usr/sbin/slink: Function "cenet", command 3: open "/dev/la0": No such file or directory

(The Riebl card works fine with NetBSD, so it should be ok in principle...)

Hmmmm... I just notice on my old screenshot the message is about a missing /dev/en0... How the heck did that change?

I got it running only by changing the scsi cable and drive(ST3620N).
Before that I tested it with few quantum and ibm drives and always got this parity error. They work with NetBSD.
Did someone manage to get network running with asv-richard's image. Or anyone has another ASV image in which the network will work with Riebl,PAM or other adapter?

Ok, I think I remember what I was trying to do back when I was last poking around in this a couple of months ago...

I somehow thought that /dev/en0 would not be the correct device for a lance (Riebl, PAM) card and the asv-richard image was configured for a different ethernet device, as en0 has the following comment in /etc/inet/strcf.net:

        cenet ip /dev/en en 0                   # DLCE-MVME374 (dlpi)

As there's a la.o in the kernel build directory, I had assumed that the correct device should actually be called la0 (but then I wouldn't have known major / minor numbers for the device file).

Yesterday, I had a look at strcf.nonet though, which contains this remark:

#  If you do not have a Riebl card for Ethernet, the
#  following line must be commented out.
##      cenet ip /dev/en en 0                   # DLCE-MVME374 (dlpi)

...so it seems the device is actually called en after all.

Still no idea what's missing though

Weeellllll... Next time I'll just RTFM first, as it turns out the la(7) man page explains all this stuff quite thoroughly (yes, it's definitely en0).

I think I'll have a go at trying to fix the asv-mark image next.

Does anyone have a good contact to Uwe Seimet (mentioned earlier in the thread) by the way? He was quite reserved when I tried to talk to him about ASV a couple of years ago on a meeting, but I know he's one of the few people who's actually used the system...

On the asv-mark image, the root file system (c0d0s1) is broken. fstyp(1M) can not even determine the file system type, fsck wants to know the location of an alternate superblock. Other filesystems seem fine.

[edit] well, that was easy: fsck -F ufs -o b=32 /dev/rdsk/c3d0s1

(Booted from a disk with the asv-richard image, and the disk with asv-mark is on ID 3...)

The hell. And now the old Seagate ST11200N I have that image on refuses to spin up after I shut down everything in order to disconnect the other drive. I think I'll give up for today (again).

I have installed marks image on separate hard disk. The bad thing is my storage room is full with furnitures right now and I can't even reach my TT machine

OK here we go again!!

I have just finished scanning the complete ASV Atari SVR4 User Manual, and yes it was a long winded process.
I want to contribute this to the forum so that EVERYONE has access to it for reference purposes only.
The documents were copied from my original Atari SVR4 User Manual, which some users have been requesting for a while now, and the continued posts about Marks and Richards ASV images may be finally resolved using the following information.
I believe that Richards image is the most stable so far, but I think Marks system can be repaired by someone with the patience to keep working on it. I had tried testing Marks System earlier with 2 different TT030s with different ram cards and by swapping cards back and forth, but still could not get it to boot. Marks image needs to be looked at by someone who truly understands the boot process in SVR4. I have no longer got the time, and my eyes are starting to fail me to a point that I can no longer finish off any future developments in SVR4 that I wished. I would love to see this O/S back up and running so that a part of AtarisTT030 history is preserved.

For some people they have asked the question, is this still under copyright restrictions and are we permitted to distribute the Software amongst other users. I have "written " replies from (ATARI CORP) who have said "The software and hardware is way too old to support and will not be considered a issue if distributed amongst users for PERSONAL USE ONLY".
I have spoken to a representative by phone from (ATARI CORP) who has confirmed the same as my Emailed replies from (ATARI CORP)

The User Manual I have divided into 7 PDF Sections.

1-User Guide - 1.7 Meg
2-Introduction - 2.6 Meg
3-Chapter1 - 1.1 Meg
4-Chapter2 - 1.4 Meg
5-Chapter3 - 10.3 Meg
6-Chapter4 - 4.0 Meg
7-Appendix - 2.6 Meg

It works out to be 23.5 meg for the whole lot of documents.

Now if any of you guys are willing to host these docs on your FTP site or whatever, send a email to chance227 at hotmail dot com with the login details and I will transfer them up. I am only releasing these, so that EVERYONE has access to them so I suggest you just set up a guest account for the downloads. Mikro do you have any space left on your site, I would love to keep everything all together if possible?

Guys please please keep me posted on the progress of Marks System?

Okay I have done some post processing to the PDFs.

1. Removed yellowing
2. Cropped Pages
3. Applied OCR
4. Renamed files little bit

Wow, great effort to all, esp chance227 and tenox for the scanning and re-processing of PDFs. Thanks Mikro for the image hosting. I've grabbed them now. Did the floppies that Richard mentioned every get copied and hosted?
Have the original installation diskettes surfaced?

Have spent a little while reading through the PDFs and am intrigued and interested.
X11 too!

Sadly I don't have a TT030 - yet!

Obviously it clearly states the use of a TT030, but what would stop it from working on a Falcon?
I'm guessing the screen hardware (19" ECL screen needed at 1280x960?)
Memory and memory board recognition?
No networking via VME...

OK so a bad idea! Still this is a great thread!
