Games with an 'attract mode'
I'm looking for games with an arcade style attract mode - that is a demo of the game being played by the CPU while waiting for input from the player. Does anybody know which games have these? I'm sure there must be plenty.
I need them to use as a backdrop for my YouTube videos.
So far I have:
A Prehistoric Tale
Barbarian
Black Lamp
Blood Money
Chambers of Shaolin
Conqueror
Crapman
Dragon's Lair
Enchanted Land
Enduro Racer
Escape From The Planet Of The Robot Monsters
Fire & Ice
Flimbo's Quest
Ghosts'n Goblins
Hotshot
IK+
Jumping Jackson
Lethal Xcess
Lotus I, II & III
Nitro
No Second Prize
North & South
Onslaught
Outrun
P-47
Pang
Parasol Stars
Prince Of Persia
Ranarama
Return to Genesis
Saint Dragon
Seven Gates of Jambala
Space Ace
Starball
Super Hang-On
Super Sprint
Thrust
Treasure Trap
Ultima series
Virus
Wings of Death
Xenon
Yolanda
Do you know of any others?
Thanks in advance,
Marc

Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
Pretty sure most of the Thalion Arcade games had an Attract Mode
Enchanted Land
Chambers of Shaolin
A Prehistoric Tale
Seven Gates of Jambala
Wings of Death
Lethal Xcess (although not a true Thalion game)
No Second Prize
I don't think Amberstar did nor Dragonflight.

Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
I was going to do this for Starball but it was too much faff to be worthwhile, so all it does is scroll the table top to bottom. Everything in the game is running as normal - just there's no ball...
Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
That's good enough for me! Such a good looking game anyway, who needs the ball...Dio wrote:I was going to do this for Starball but it was too much faff to be worthwhile, so all it does is scroll the table top to bottom. Everything in the game is running as normal - just there's no ball...

Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
I seem to remember Supercars having an attract mode too

Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
I remember a store that was selling ST's had Killing Game Show running. The "attract mode" was a reply of the game from the start of the level till where you died. It kept repeating it over and over untill you moved the joystick. Ever so often though it'll have in large letters in the screen "Press 'F' to Fast Forward" which the F key does speed things up. At the time I thought it was cool so that's why I wanted an ST.

Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
What a cool idea! That would have sucked me into wanting an ST too. I wonder if that was the first time that you could watch a replay of your performance in a game?MrMaddog wrote:I remember a store that was selling ST's had Killing Game Show running. I think Road Runner on the Atari 2600 has a similar feature as well as some other 2600 games that I can't remember off the top of my head.StickHead wrote:What a cool idea! Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
Thank you! These have been added, though it could be argued that the whole games are just attract modes with very little gameplay to speak of!purpleeagle01 wrote:Who do I remember correctly there are at Dragons Lair and Space Ace fashion a cinema mode.

Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
The really innovative thing about it was that you could continue at any point of the replay. The game was pretty hard so this was a great idea. It could be nice for many other games where you notice your mistake just later on.StickHead wrote:What a cool idea! That would have sucked me into wanting an ST too. Are there any other games (on any platform, not just ST) where you could continue from any point in the replay?

Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
blood money also has an ataract mode, though as far as i remember, the 'ship' doesn't move, the cpu just scrolls through the level for a bit
Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
"Fire & Ice" by Graftgold does also have an attractmode showing one of the four first levels.

Re: Games with an 'attract mode'
Conqueror[1] playable demo runs the game while waiting user to start a game, so I would assume full game to have "attract mode" too. Based on its demo it seemed pretty good game (arcade 3D tank shoot'em up).
