SITE INFO: Planned Maintenance Jan 24th 2012. NOW ON 25th!

Post by Dal »

All,

I have the following maintenence to perform on Atari-Forum and AtariLegend:
1. Update PHPBB version on AF.
2. Install extra anti-spam mod on AF.
3. Update TapaTalk plugin on AF.
4. Look at issue with screenshots on AL.
5. Fix issue with smart feed plug-in on AF.

Expect access to both sites to be sporadic on Tuesday Jan 24th. Work will be commencing from around 3pm (GMT) I will post to this thread when work has been completed.

Ta!

As of now, there seems to be DNS trouble. I used to get here with "http://www.atari-forum.com", but currently only "http://atari-forum.com" is available.

Really? I use http://www.atari-forum.com without issue. I think this may be a local issue for you Ektus. Does anyone else have problems accessing the site with the URL http://www.atari-forum.com?

Ektus - can you try the following:
1. Ping both urls (with and without the www prefix) and pm me with the result.
2. Try accessing the full URL from other locations (whenever you have an opportunity to use someone else's Internet connection) and report back to this thread please?

It's back to normal for me. Both addresses are working once again. Ping resolves the same IP for both (resolve would not work at all prviously for the WWW address). Maybe a glitch with my provider's DNS then.

Never mind

Access is normal for me. Hope the maintainance goes as planned. I love the fact this site is still here and such a valuable resource. I hope to be building a forum myself using MyBB instead of phpBB. However, I shall be using the Atari Forum as my inspiration. :-)

URGH! Fallen at the first hurdle. The full backup to my online storage account (approx 5.5GB) failed... twice! Logged a service call with the online storage provider and they reckon it will be fixed for me to access tomorrow.

So, I've brought the board back up again and will try again tomorrow.

Sorry for the downtime guys - I'll get it patched up and running again as soon as I can.

UPDATE.

Backup worked today as I hoped and phpBB has now been updated. The mods I wanted to implement haven't yet been ratified for the currently installed version of phpBB so I am going to wait until that's happened before I install them.

Only changes you will notice is that recent posts section on the main screen has been expanded to show the 25 most recent posts and new members will be required to complete a simple Q&A captcha (just a single simple question) in order to complete registration. The 3D captcha's are now considered ineffective against spambots.

Please report here if anything is broken.

Things still to do:
Atari-Legend Screenshot fix (due to the delayed maintenance, I haven't had a chance to look at it yet)
Install some additional spam protection/admin mods
Update Tapatalk plugin
re-install smartfeed mod

I expect to find some time over the coming few days to tick some/all of these off the list.

Nice job Dal, thanks for keeping this place up and running.

Wouldn't be the same without AF around. :)

Hey Dal, I was just curious... I don't know if you can do it with this software
or if its even available, but... AtariAge has an IP chat room where everyone
can congregate and talk in real time.

Any chance AtariForum could get something like that?

Just a thought! Thanks. :)

How about this?

I'm just implementing it on my offline version of the forum to check it out.

Installation on my dev box didn't go as well as I would have liked. I'll mess around with it for a bit longer and see how we get on. I'd like to do it without adding more clutter to the main page.

Understood - it was just a thought. I just thought it would be kinda cool for many of

If can get it to work well, then I'm happy to implement it. I found that people get a bit touchy when the main page changes at all (as I discovered last year when the recent mods was added!).

Let me have a play with it and see.

Just as a thought, if chat is added, why not just had a small link to it in the header next to "Smartfeed, FAQ....". That way the change to the main page is absolutely minimal. :-)
