Problem creating thumbnails for uploaded images

Post by spiny »

I've just uploaded a 320x200 PNG for this page:

http://www.atari-forum.com/wiki/index.php/Torment

and I got these errors:

Warning: escapeshellarg() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/atariforum/domains/atari-forum.com/public_html/wiki/includes/GlobalFunctions.php on line 1321

Warning: escapeshellarg() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/atariforum/domains/atari-forum.com/public_html/wiki/includes/GlobalFunctions.php on line 1321

Warning: escapeshellarg() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/atariforum/domains/atari-forum.com/public_html/wiki/includes/GlobalFunctions.php on line 1321

and the image does not display. Is there a problem with the wiki at the moment ?

Looks like the php function that deals with PNG images has been switched off. Possibly ImageMagick or GD needs to be installed for that. Try it with a .GIF or .JPG instead. Should work fine then. If not, it may be your image is too large and without ImageMagick or GD installed it cannot be resized to fit the screen.

GIF is bizzarly not a supported file format, will give JPG a go.

I've asked Silver Surfer to take a look when he's free.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

I think someone is going to have to look at the back-end settings for the wiki. Perhaps it's security setting are a little too much, and it has certain PHP functions disabled by default i.e. image functions. Images work fine on the the forum. So... same server, same settings. Unless, the wiki itself has it's own admin section where these setting can be turned off (or off by default).

I had a quick look around and couldn't see anything obvious - your pictures appear OK Spiny but still with those messages at the top of the screen.

I did, however, kill off some spammers :)

yeah, they show ok in the file management bit, but they are broken if you try and link to them:

It probably needs ImageMagick or NetPBM (to resize the thumbnail) but the security settings are preventing it from calling any external programs...

At least you can work around it by rescaling the png manually and adding it as a "normal" image (e.g. what I did to the article just now) :)
